The School of Mechanical and Power Engineering is developed from the Department of Chemical Process Machinery founded in 1958. There are 3 undergraduate programs in the school, i.e. Process Equipment and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Thermal and Power Engineering. The school has 1 post-doctoral scientific research station in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, 1 PhD program in Chemical Engineering Process Machinery, and 10 master programs covering Chemical Process Machinery, Thermal Engineering, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Design and Theory, etc. The discipline of Chemical Process Machinery is one of the Jiangsu provincial key disciplines.
There are 8 teaching and scientific research units in the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, and 98 qualified faculties and administration staff, including 21 full professors and 32 associate professors. The School has a group of outstanding faculties, including the candidates of "the National Hundreds of Millions of Qualified personnel Project”, "the Jiangsu Provincial Excellent Academic Pioneers in the Universities”, "the Jiangsu Provincial 333 Project”, "the Jiangsu Provincial 10 good young teachers”, "the Jiangsu Provincial Award of Science and Technology for Young people”, "the Jiangsu Provincial Excellent Worker of Science and Technology”, "the National Excellent Worker of Failure Analysis”, "the Jiangsu Provincial Qinglan Project”. Now the faculty team is formed by youth, wrinkly and senior folks, in which excellent youth and wrinkly are the main force, the discipline team of Chemical Process Machinery got the honor of “the Jiangsu Provincial Excellent discipline teams in Universities”, and the Institution of Chemical Process Machinery got the honor of “the Jiangsu Provincial Excellent faculty teams”.
The School of Mechanical and Power Engineering pays much attention to the training of students with high quality and a great number of undergraduate and graduate students have been trained, it focuses on the dialectic unification of knowledge, ability, diathesis and innovative education in the student training. With the continuously innovation in these years, the school got many awards of provincial excellent teaching achievements, and got excellent achievements in all kinds of scientific and technical contests at national, provincial and municipal levels, such as the Challenging Cup and the Innovation Cup. Currently, the undergraduate program of Process Equipment and Control Engineering has been developed as one of the Jiangsu Provincial name brand undergraduate programs. The Jiangsu provincial graduate students training base supported by the cooperation of industrial, academic and research units has been established at the discipline of Chemical Process Machinery, and the discipline has been fostered as the candidate of national key disciplines.
The School of Mechanical and Power Engineering also pays much attention to the scientific research and discipline construction, and insists on the development of both scientific research and students training, and the promotion by each other. Several institutions and research centers of science and technology have been built and some research achievements have been made in the fields of reliability engineering, high temperature equipment technology, advanced manufacture in process equipment, fluid analysis and measurement control technology, seal technology, and heat pipe and energy technology, and a number of scientific achievements have won different awards at national, ministerial and provincial levels, including National Second Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress, Provincial and Ministerial First Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress.
