A comprehensive college jointly established by Nankai University and Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area, TEDA College was built and put into use in August 2000. Beautiful and quiet, TEDA campus covers an area of 70,000 m² with a total construction space of over 100,000 m², and is divided into two functional parts: the teaching & research area and the domestic area.
As a comprehensive college directly belonging to Nankai University, with the rich educational resources supported by Nankai University, TEDA College explores a new type of educational mode in the twenty-first century China, pushes the combination of Nankai University and industries, actively expands the educational space of Nankai University, and makes contribution to building Nankai University into a top ranking university in the world; with the excellent material support and community environment provided by TEDA, TEDA College further promotes the human environment and fund-attracting environment of Tianjin Development Area, and contributes to the modernization of TEDA and Tianjin.
According to China's objective of personnel training of higher education, TEDA College sticks to Nankai University's motto-dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability, and aspiration for progress with each passing day, and aims at setting up a high-levelled academic stage and talent stage for Nankai University and TEDA. With "a high starting point, multi-disciplinary, research-oriented and open-minded" as its guideline, TEDA College establishes a brand-new school management system as well as a teaching & research system, emphasizes creativity, originality and productivity in teaching and research, and strengthens the educational aim of "3-in1 combination" involving teaching, research, and production. EDA College plans to establish a number of research centers and engineering technological development centers with an internationally advanced research level. At present TEDA College has over 2,000 students and 2 professional schools. It offers 23 specialties for undergraduate and graduate study, such as Business Management, Microelectronics, Laws and Economics, to name just a few. Besides, there are quite a few research centers which rank among the advanced-level in the world in terms of equipment and research level, including Transnationals Research Center, Security and Enterprise Finance Research Center, Research and Development Center of Membrane Separation Technology, and Microelectronics Microchip Research Center.
Throught the persistent effort for over five years since its foundation, TEDA College has made considerable achievements, which attracted the attention and praises of the state leaders. State leaders, including Wen jiabao, Li Lanqing, Zhang Lichang, Chen Zhili inspected TEDA College and spoke highly of it. On June 26, 2005, when Premier Wen Jiabao inspected TEDA College, he pointed out, ??It is necessary for Nankai University to establish TEDA College in the development area. The college is of great promise and I wish it a splendid future.
