The predecessor of the School of Liberal Arts was department of Chinese language and literature which was founded in 1950. This school has Chinese literature department, department of journalism, research institute of language and literature, research institute of ancient books collation, research institute of calligraphy art, research institute of corporate culture, research institute of the education of Chinese language and literature, primary study base of Shandong cultural construction and personnel training research base of Shandong Cultural industry.
Chinese Language and Literature is the flagship discipline of School of Liberal Arts. In 1986, it was authorized to be the key discipline of Shandong Province. It has the right to confer doctoral and master’s degrees. Besides, this college has 3 doctoral programs of second-level disciplines- modern and contemporary Chinese literature, literature and art and classical Chinese literature. In addition, it has 11 master’s programs including modern and contemporary Chinese literature, literature and art, classical Chinese literature, Chinese philology, linguistics and applied linguistics, comparative literature and world literature, Chinese classical documents, aesthetics, film studies, journalism, etc. The modern and contemporary Chinese literature, literature and art are two provincial level key disciplines. The classical Chinese literature and Chinese philology are two university-level key disciplines.
School of Liberal Arts now has 90 full-time teachers, in which, 24 are doctoral tutors and 73 are master’s tutors; 31 are professors and 44 are associate professors; 36 are holders of doctoral degrees and 13 are doctoral students. Besides, one teacher has won the national outstanding teacher award, 1 is the provincial outstanding teacher, 1 is Taishan Scholar, 8 teachers enjoy the government special allowance, etc. Currently, there are over 2,739 undergraduate students, 495 master students and 74 doctoral students at this school.
In recent five years, School of Liberal Arts has published over 150 monographs and over 1,000 theses (including over 500 core journals). And it has won 65 scientific research awards at provincial level or above, in which, 1 is Luxun Literature Prize, 3 are outstanding achievement prize of humanities and social sciences projects of education department, 19 are provincial outstanding prizes of social sciences, etc. Besides, in recent 5 years, it has undertaken over 100 scientific research projects (60 of the projects are being studied), in which, 10 are projects financed by national social science fund, 7 are social sciences planning projects of ministry of education, etc. The strong scientific research strength and abundant scientific achievements can not only give support to the teaching but also contribute to the cultural development of the economic society.

For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.
Entry Requirements
Undergraduates: Have a diploma equivalent to the high school diploma in China; HSK Level 3.
Master candidates: Have a diploma equivalent to the bachelor degree in China; HSK Level 6; pass the entrance exams of two or three core courses.
Doctor candidates: Have a diploma equivalent to the master degree in China; HSK Level 6; pass the entrance exams of two or three core courses.
