The college, which was based on the Department of Fisheries Management and the College of Central Cadres Administration, Branch of SFU, was founded in 1984. It takes “Managing the nation, benefiting the people, striving unceasingly” as the college motto. Now the college has 4 research sections, namely Resources and Environmental Economy, Marine Culture and Policy, Foreign Trade and Food Logistics, and Laws and Economic policies, and several research centers such as Agricultural Produce Brand Research Center of SFU, Logistics Research Center, and China Fisheries Development Strategy Research Center jointly built with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The college has 6 bachelor programs, including Agricultural Economics and Management, Finance, International Economics and Trade, Accounting, Logistics Management, and Marketing, 3 Master programs, including Industrial Economics, Fisheries Management and Agricultural Economics and Management, 1 equivalent-education master program of Regional Economy Development, and 1 doctoral program in Fisheries Economics and Management, which makes SFU the only university covering from bachelor degree to doctoral degree in the field of Fisheries Economics and Management. Over 2500 undergraduates and more than 70 postgraduates are now studying in the college. The college now has a teaching staff of 69 teachers, including 15 professors, 26 associate professors, 23 master and doctoral supervisors. In recent years, the college has won 28 research projects above provincial and ministerial level, 10 international collaborative projects, and 35 latitudinal projects. More than 200 papers have been published on key academic journals home and abroad, and over 10 academic treatises have been published.
The college has attached importance to the discipline construction and becomes a national base for culturing talents in fisheries economics and management, a creation center for fisheries economic theories, and a consultation center for fisheries economic policy research. Agricultural Economics and Management has become a key special discipline of Shanghai Municipality, and International Food Logistics based on Logistics Management has become an Education Highland of Shanghai Municipality.
As well as seeking development in China, the college actively expands its foreign exchanges and spares no efforts to explore new approaches to the cooperation with foreign universities. Nowadays, it has established wide cooperative ties with the universities and research institutes from the U.S.A, Japan, Norway, and Korea, etc., as well as United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
