The Department of Chinese Language and Literature was founded on the basis of the original Teaching Chinese as a second Language major which has over 20 years’ history. This department centers on the Chinese language education and it pays equal attention to teaching and scientific research. It offers undergraduate education and postgraduate education. Besides, it offers the elementary course and selected course of public Chinese language for the whole university.
The Department of Chinese Language and Literature has an excellent teaching team. Most of the full-time teachers are well-educated and have senior professional titles. Currently, there are 26 full-time and part-time teachers, including 9 doctors, 9 professors, 15 master tutors. Some of them are famous scholars and some are doctoral tutors, etc. These teachers have undertaken 3 state-level scientific research items, 14 provincial and ministerial level scientific research items. Besides, they have published over 30 academic monographs and over 200 academic theses. And they have won lots of provincial and ministerial level prizes.
The Department of Chinese Language has opened lots of courses, including contemporary Chinese language, ancient Chinese language and culture, classical Chinese literature, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, writing, introduction to literary theory, foreign literature, comparative literature, aesthetic, general theory of Chinese teaching to foreigners, introduction to linguistics, introduction to Chinese culture, comprehensive English, English-Chinese translation, English listening comprehension, English extensive reading, spoken English, etc.
The students who graduate from department of Chinese language are applicable to diversified jobs. They can go to government offices, foreign affairs and foreign investment institutions, press and publications units, scientific research institutes, enterprises and public institutions, etc. Some of them can engage in teaching Chinese for foreigners both at home and abroad.

Bachelor’s program: 4 years
Master’s program: 3 years
Doctoral program: 3 years
Application Time
Applications for undergraduate and postgraduate programs should be made from March to July each year, and the academic year starts in early September.
Entry Requirements
Undergraduates: have reached the age of 17, in good health, with a senior high school or above diploma, have reached Level 5 in the HSK test.
Master candidates: have obtained a bachelor’s degree, with recommendations by two professors or associate professors, have reached Level 7 in the HSK test, have passed the entrance examination, and are in good health.
