Shandong University of Art and Design, established in 1973, is one of thirty-one art and design academies in China. It is located in the historically famous city, Jinan. During the past thirty years, Shandong University of Art and Design, offering bachelor degree, Master degree, vocational training, and continuing education, has evolved into an art and design university with its own distinctive characteristics.
Shandong University of Art and Design occupies two campuses, Qianfoshan Campus near Thousand Buddha Scenic Spot and Changqing Campus located in Changqing University Town, equipped with advanced facilities for teaching and research, and taking up a total area of 900 hectares. It is comprised of Comprehensive Lab Center, Digital Art and Communication Lab Center, Special Arts and Crafts Center, modernized library, Art Gallery, and Museum. Shandong University of Art and Design publishes the “Shandong University of Art and Design Newspaper” and its journal called “Art of Design”, as well as running the university website and DESIGN.CN website. In addition, it has 25 off-campus internship sites.
Shandong University of Art and Design (SUAD) consists of 11 different schools: School of Visual Communication Design, School of Architecture and Landscape Design, School of Industrial Design, School of Fashion Design, School of Fine Arts, School of Digital Art and Communication, School of Modern Handicraft Art, School of Arts and Humanities, School of Applied Design, School of Continuing Education, and School of Common Courses. SUAD has also established Shandong Provincial Intangible Culture Heritage Research Center, China Folk Art Research Institute, Furniture Research Institute, Image Art Research Institute, Art and Science Research Center, Motze Pinhole Image Research Center, Glass Research Institute, Architecture and Landscape Institute, and Shandong Provincial Creative Industry Research and Development Base. Currently, SUAD offers 16 undergraduate degree programs, ranging from design art to animation. Three master’s degree programs are offered in design art, art, and fine arts.
Shandong University of Art and Design has vigorously expanded its ties and cooperation with universities and institutes at home and abroad. This has established friendly relationship with 24 universities and colleges of art and design in America, Australia, Austria, Europe, Finland, France, Great Britain, Japan, Korea, Russia, and Sweden, as well as the undergraduate exchange program with Shandong University, and Shandong Institute of Economics. In addition, it cooperates with Shandong Television Station, Shandong Art Publishing House, Shandong Drama Troupe, and etc. as well.
