School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest-scale and one of the most powerful schools in the NUST. The school has a contingent of reasonably structured, academically active and sound-based teachers. It has a group of distinguished young experts and trans-century cultivated personnel of the “Project 511”, “Project 333” of Jiangsu Province and “Cyanine Project”. The school has a total faculty of 252, including 52 full professors, 93 associated professors, and 66 lecturers. The school has 24 doctoral supervisors, 109 master advisors and 7 researchers in the postdoctoral station. It has a total number of 3308 students . 270 of them are doctor candidates, 567 of them are master graduates and the rest 2471 are undergraduates. The school has an overall set of disciplines, programs and research facilities, consisting of 7 departments-- Mechanical Engineering & Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering & Automation, Vehicle & Transportation Engineering, Measuring & testing Technologies & Instruments, Design Art and Industrial Engineering, and 102 Teaching & Research Lab; 8 research institutes and one national engineering center, one national defense key lab, one product development center ---the special robot engineering center, MEMS inertia technology research center; two University Key labs--- Mechatronic Engineering Center, Mechanics Engineering Center. There are 3 postdoctoral stations, 10 doctoral programs and 19 master programs which cover Mechanical Engineering, Armament Science & Technology, Instrument Science and Technology and Aviation and Space Navigation Science and Technology 4 primary disciplines. The school boasts 3 national key disciplines, 4 ministerial and provincial key disciplines. It has Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Measuring & testing Technologies & Instruments, Armament System and Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Industrial Design and Art Design 8 undergraduate disciplines.

At present, The School of Mechanical Engineering has established collaborative links with many colleges and scientific research institutes from more than 10 developed countries and regions, such as U.S., Germany, France, U.K., Japan, Russia, Hong Kong, Macao and E.U. Under this relationship, both sides carry forward scientific research, academic exchanges and jointly running education. To facilitate transfer of technology, the School of Mechanical Engineering also has conducted comprehensive cooperation with government sections concerned, scientific research institutes and large-scale enterprises from Jiangsu Province, Hubei Province, Anhui Province, Jiangxi Province, Henan Province, Shaanxi Province, Shanxi Province, Sichuan Province, Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province, Liaoning Province, Chongqing City etc. More than 30 famous experts and professors, including some academicians, have been invited to be the part-time professors of the school. They exert great influence on the pioneering and development of the School of Mechanical Engineering.

The school will continue to devote itself to the construction of the disciplines and the labs. It will strive to improve the quality of the trained personnel and the teaching efficiency, further enhance its comprehensive strength to open its new prospect.
