The Department of Musicology is an important base for the cultivation of senior experts in music. Since its settlement in 1978, the department has fostered large amounts of excellent experts on composition, performance, and teaching, who have accumulated abundant experiences in teaching.
The department of musicology now has six majors, which are Peking Opera Musical Instruments, Opera Composition, National Musical instruments, Musicology, Music Production, and Musicology Education. The first two majors have great influence in this area. At present there are 387 undergraduates, 27 postgraduates on literary and 13 postgraduates on art.
The academy staff of the department of musicology is quite strong and solid. At present there are 61 teachers (including the teacher orchestra), among whom there are 5 teachers with senior title, 21 vice professors, and 20 teachers with doctor’s degree or master’s degree. Besides, the department has recruited dozens of prestigious composers, performers and professors from other universities and research institutes to give lessons and lectures. Moreover, the department also invites foreign musicians to give speeches occasionally.
In recent years, the equipment of the department has been improved greatly, and now it has a whole set of education equipment and practice ground, such as practice room, rehearsal classroom, and multimedia room. The national organization--- China Theater and Opera Institute is founded in this department. The department of Musicology also has academic seminars and activities about teaching, creating, and theory researching.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must have an HSK test score of grade 6 or above, having graduated from high school or higher academic records and having passed the entry examinations.
For Master’s Degree: Applicants must have an HSK test score of grade 8 or above, having graduated from universities or higher academic records and having passed the entry examinations.
