The School of Mechanical Engineering was established with merging the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institute of Wheel Gear at Taiyuan University of Technology and the former Department of Mechanical Engineering of Shanxi Institute of Mining Technology, as well as the Department of Light Manufacturing. With 50 years of development, it has cultivated a total number of 10,000 undergraduates, junior college students and 220 graduates. Most of them have become the high-qualified constructers and leadership in various organizations and occupations. Some of them have been the prestigious scholars, experts, scientists and professors, while the other of them has been the leading part in the national, provincial and ministerial committees.
At present, the School is composed of 4 departments, one center, 2 institutes, and one section. Bases on fostering compound talents, the School owns 2 bachelor’s programs: Machinery Design, Theory & Automation, and Industrial Design, 4 doctoral programs, including Machinery Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronics Engineering, Machinery Design and Theory, Vehicle Engineering, 6 master’s programs covering Machinery Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronics Engineering, Machinery Design and Theory, Vehicle Engineering, Power Machinery Engineering, and Art Layout, and 3 master’s programs of Engineering: Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Power Machinery Engineering.
The teaching power of the School is strong and solid. Up till now, it embraces a total number of 204 staff. Among them, there are 48 full professors, 60 associate professors, 5 senior engineers with 8 doctoral supervisors and 18 master supervisors. About 20 of them are Doctoral degrees and 85% of them are Master’s degrees. The School has an enrollment of over 1700 full=time undergraduates, 175 postgraduates for Engineering Master’s degree, 100 postgraduates for Technology, and 20 doctorates.
In recent years, the School has made great achievements on scientific research. It has undertaken a large number of national and provincial key projects. Many awards have been won in the school. The faculty has published more than 10 monographs, 300 academic papers and 5 national patents. Now, it still undertakes more than 30 projects of National Nature Funds on national and provincial levels.

Application time
For international students, the time for registration is the first two weeks of each semester (before March 10th and September 10th each year). Short-term students will start according to each individual schedule.Two months before the semester starts, the applicants should submit the materials to the International College.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree:
Be above 15 years old, senior high school graduate, HSK certificate, in good health and AIDS certificate.
For Master’s degree:
Have Bachelor’s degree or above, under the age of 65, HSK certificate, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good health and AIDS certificate.
For Doctoral degree:
Have Master’s degree or above, under the age of 65, HSK certificate, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good health and AIDS certificate.
