The School of Mechanical Engineering is the second-level school in Tsinghua University. Every year, nearly 600 undergraduate students, 400 postgraduate students and 140 doctoral students graduate from the School. Meanwhile, the School also provides courses of Manufacturing Processes and Methods, Mechanics, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, as well as industrial training to all students of non-mechanical majors in the university.
Since the 1980s, great changes have taken place in all subjects of Mechanical Engineering due to the combination of the traditional Machine Manufacturing Industry with the Information Technology. The development of science and technology has raised the educational level, which, in turn, has promoted the further development of science and technology. The School makes full use of the advantages of the interaction and combination of useful disciplines, follows closely the advanced level of disciplinary development, carries out a large number of state key research projects, and has made its due contributions to the development of the national economy in cooperation with industries.
It is the foremost task of the School to train a new generation of talented people in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The School not only requires the students to have solid foundation of theoretical knowledge, broad background in major knowledge, strong capability in practice and good computer skills, but also stresses on the improvement of student's all-round quality and creativity. With its well-equipped laboratories and teaching facilities, combination of theories with practices, various advanced research subjects serving the national economy, and a high quality faculty team, the School provides the students with a good environment for studying and developing their talents as well as giving full play to their intelligence and wisdom.

Application time
For Degree applicants, the application time is from early January to early April each year.
For Master’s degree in English: the time for application begins from October 27.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: the applicants should have senior high school diploma or above, in good health, under the age of 25, Completed Letter of Recommendation from senior high school/institution, and HSK6 certificate or above.
For Master’s degree: the applicants should have Bachelor’s degree or above, 2 recommendation letters from two associate professors or above, in good health and HSK6 certificate or above.
For Doctoral degree:the applicants should have Master’s degree or above, 2 recommendation letters from two associate professors or above, two representative academic papers; in good health and HSK6 certificate or above.
