The School of Medicine inherits the main part of the original Hengyang Medical College. And it covers all the programs of the clinical medicine of the original Hengyang Medical College. Currently, there are 218 permanent teaching and administrative staffs, in which, 50 are professors, 52 are associate professors and 78 are lecturers. The full-time teachers’ number is 178, in which, 24 have doctoral degrees, 79 have master’s degrees, 3 are doctoral tutors, 42 are master’s tutors, 12 are academic leaders, etc. This school has 13 teaching and research sections, 5 experimental centers, 3 research institutes, 1 provincial level key discipline, 6 university-level key disciplines, 5 provincial level key courses, 5 master’s programs of second-level discipline and one doctoral program of second-level discipline.
The School of Medicine has the multi-level personnel training system on the basis of full-time medical education for undergraduate students and graduate students. It has 5 majors, including Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine, Medical Image, Anesthesia, etc. It also has various Masters’ programs, such as Pathology and Pathophysiology, Pathogeny Biology, Anatomy and Histoembryology, Immunology, Pphysiology, etc. And in this year, this school was authorized to confer the Doctoral degree of Pathogeny Biology, which is a second-level discipline.
In order to guarantee the needs of clinical teaching and scientific research, this school now has 3 affiliated hospitals, 7 collaborative affiliated hospitals and 10 teaching hospitals. There are all together over 12,000 hospital beds. Over the years, the students cultivated by this college have strong practical abilities and professional ethics. They can be seen in the medical institutions, medical colleges and schools, pharmaceutical research institutions and the government health management institutions both inside and outside the province. Many of them have become the national key talents, chief scientists, Cheung Kong Scholars, famous scholars, business backbone, etc. They enjoy high reputation both at home and abroad.

For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.
