Faculty of Material Science and Engineering is one of the earliest faculties of Xi'an University of Technology. It was well-known first for development of the technique of the horizontal continuous casting–direct rolling of cast iron as well as the technique of rapid thin layer carburization. Present scientific research is involved in the fields of design, shaping and surface modification for metal and non-metal materials, in the related fields of which two National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology and 22 items of invention awards were won.
The education tenet of the Faculty of Material Science and Engineering is that “Theory and Practice, and Knowledge and Ability Shall Be Regarded As Equally important”. About 6,000 graduates have played active roles in many large and medium-sized enterprises and research institutions over China. Kinki University, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan and Teer Coatings Ltd, UK, are the partners of this faculty in the research of preparation of functional films and metal surface modification, and it has a long well-established relationship in this cooperation.
The Faculty of Material Science and Engineering consists of 6 departments, 5 material project research centers, and 4 laboratories. This faculty offers 2 doctoral programs (material physics and chemistry, material science), 3 postgraduate programs (material science, material physics and chemistry, material processing engineering) and 4 undergraduate programs (material science and engineering, material physics, material processing and control engineering, material chemistry). There is also a professional master program of material science. Also established at Xi’an University of Technology is the publication of Academic magazine Founding Technology. Among 60 teachers of the faculty, there are 15 professors and 19 associate professors. The total student population of this faculty is 1292, among which, there are 24 doctoral students, 220 master students and 1,048 undergraduates.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
For Master’s degree: Applicants must be under 40 of age and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and a Bachelor’s degree, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above.
For Doctoral degree:Applicants must be in good physical condition and under 45 of age in principle, holding a non-China passport and a Master’s degree, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, academic records.
