The Department of Chinese Language & Literature is one of the departments of the College of Humanities & Social Science of Xi’an Jiaotong University. It was firstly established in 1930s. After a long time terminating, it was recovered in 1996 and began to enroll undergraduate students in the second year. It began to enroll postgraduate students in 2001. Currently, the Department covers 24 faculties, including 3 professors and 9 associate professors. The Bachelor’s degree programs are to cultivate students of adequate comprehensive knowledge about Chinese Language & Literature and high level of writing ability. The master’s programs include Literature & Art, Mass Communication which aim to cultivate talents of Literary Criticism and Journalism.
Since the year 2000, the College of Humanities & Social Science has made great progress in teaching and research. The faculties have published 49 works and textbooks, self-edited 21 textbooks, of which one won the second prize in the National Excellent Textbooks Appraisal. The faculties have published 463 papers in a number of humanities and social sciences journals such as Seeking Truth, and Chinese Social Science. It has undertaken 9 social science fund projects at state level, 17 projects at provincial, ministerial or higher level, and other 51 research projects as well. It has won 25 awards at provincial, ministerial or higher level, including a third- prize software in the National Multimedia Software Appraisal, a course in the Top Courses of Universities and Colleges in Shaanxi Province. It also has won other 53 awards.
Having been established for ten years, the College has always dedicated to international and national academic exchange. The College has hosted seminars and meetings, invited famous scholars at home and abroad to give lectures, and recruited them as part-time or guest professors. The College has kept good relations of academic exchange and cooperation with prestigious universities in foreign countries. With the support of the Ministry of Education, Jinhe Economic Research Center cooperates with famous professors and experts to cultivate graduates majoring in economics with the background of science and engineering, which opens up a new path to cultivate academic talents on humanities.

Application time
For Degree applicants, the deadline for application is June 30 for autumn semester, December 30 for spring semester. Degree students shall arrive before August 31st for fall semester and before February 8th for spring semester.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: the applicants should have senior high school diploma, academic records, health certificate and HSK6 certificate.
For Master’s degree: the applicants should have Bachelor’s degree, recommended by two associate professors or above, academic records, health certificate and HSK6 certificate.
