The School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the most age-old and reputed schools of Xi'an Jiaotong University. It was restructured and developed from the original Mechanical Engineering Department and Mechanology Department, and was formally built up after the reshuffling of schools and departments in June, 1994. In the School, there are 3 first-class subjects authorized to offer doctorates including 6 doctorate conferring posts and 7 master's degree conferring posts. The School has also a State Key Laboratory of Machinery Manufacturing System and a Post-doctoral Research Station of Mechanical Engineering which is among the firstly established post-doctoral research stations in China. At present, the School has 221 teaching and administrative staff members, including 93 professors, 2 chief committeemen and 10 committee members of the State Instruction Committee for Specialty Education and Course Education.
The School is composed of 4 departments and 3 teaching offices of basic courses, 2 experiment centers, 12 research institutes and 1 training center. Over the past five years, 5 state-level and 47 province- and ministry-level awards for teaching and research fruits have been won by the School. At present, the funds or outlays on scientific research has reached up to 10 million a year.
The School has powerful scientific strength and intellectual resources ,and has formed its own characteristics in such scientific fields as RP&M, intelligent instrument and monitoring inspection, NC technology, laser and infrared application, vibration and noise control, new materials preparation and surface engineering. Some research work has enjoyed high reputation at home and abroad.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: the applicants should have senior high school diploma or above, win good results in the entrance examination, over the age of 18, under the age of 35, and HSK certificate transcript copy.
For Master’s degree: the applicants should have Bachelor’s degree or above , recommended by two associate professors or above, win good results in the entrance examination, under the age of 40 and HSK certificate transcript copy.
For Doctoral degree:the applicants should have Master’s degree or above, win good results in the entrance examination, recommended by two associate professors or above, under the age of 45 and HSK certificate transcript copy.
