On July 27, 2006, organized by Chinese National Research Council for College Computer Education, and hosted by Xiamen University, The First International Conference on Computer Science and Education (ICCSE 2006) opened at Xiamen University. Professor Li Maoqing of the School of Information Science and Technology of Xiamen University acted as chairman of the Conference Organization Committee and Deputy President and Professor Sun Shi’gang was present and made a welcome address.
This is the top level international academic conference on computer and engineering education held in China. It specially invited over a dozen IEEE academicians from various universities in the US, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Engineering. Among them, IEEE academician and Chairman of Control System Association Professor John Baillieul of Boston University, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Beihang University Professor Li Mo, Academician of US Academy of Engineering, IEEE academician and past Chairman of Control System Association Professor Tamer Basar respectively made keynote reports entitled “Rethinking Control Engineering in a Networked World,” “Coordinativity and Survivability of E.mission Systems,” “Networks and Games: A Fast-Growing Interaction in Research and Education.” The conference also made a special arrangement for the participants to have dialogues and discussions with the academicians, well-known professors, and scholars on such issues as English paper writing and research.
This conference had drawn over 140 experts and scholars from home and abroad, and received over 400 papers, 215 of which were finally accepted. The participants also had seminars and reports in small groups. The conference was concluded on July 29.
