The predecessor of the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology was Agronomy department, Agricultural Institute of Yunnan University. The agronomy department was established in 1938. And in 2001, this department was renamed to College of Agriculture and Biotechnology. This college was authorized to confer the master’s degrees in 1983 and doctoral degrees in 2003.
The College of Agronomy and Biotechnology has been always sticking to the policy “make the best of the existing talents, actively bring in high-quality talents and strive to cultivate backup talents”. And it has formed a high-quality teaching team. Currently, there are 111 teaching and administrative staffs at this college, in which, 96 are full-time teachers, 17 are professors, 9 are doctoral tutors, 39 have associate professors, 33 have medium professional titles. 66.7% of the teachers have master’s degrees or above. Some doctors, masters and visiting scholars return from oversea are becoming the core force of teaching and scientific research.
At the present time, there are 32 doctoral students, 162 postgraduate students, 821 undergraduate students, 48 junior college students and 555 correspondence students at this college. This college has experimental center of crop science. And this center has 4 professional laboratories of agriculture, seed science and engineering, biotechnology and Chinese medical herb cultivation and appraisal. Every laboratory has set up several second-level laboratories. Currently, the experimental rooms’ area is 2561.4 square meters. And the equipments’ total value is 6,767,000 yuan. Besides, it has one intramural practical farm and 5 extramural practical teaching bases.
The College of Agronomy and Biotechnology attaches great importance to the exchanges and cooperation with the institutions of the same trade both at home and abroad. Now, it has established extensive cooperation relationship with British Wolverhampton University, the International University of Kagoshima, Lingnan University of South Korea, Thailand Chieng Mai University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, etc. They have jointly cultivated over 10 doctors and masters. Currently, there are 12 overseas students come from Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, etc. studying at this school.

Application Time
For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.
Entry Requirements
Undergraduates: Having the degree which equals to the senior high school degree of China; having passed the qualification examination and entrance examination.
Master candidates: Having the degree which equals to the bachelor’s degree of China; recommended by two associate professors or above; having passed the qualification examination and entrance examination.
Doctor candidates: Having the degree which equals to the master’s degree of China; recommended by two professors or above; having passed the qualification examination and entrance examination.
