The School of Architecture at Harbin Institute of Technology is among the earliest professional architectural disciplines in China. The School contains three research divisions: Architecture, Civil Planning and Art Design.
In 1985, the Division of Architecture study acquired the qualification of Doctoral Degree granting; and in 1994, it passed the national evaluation of college and graduate education with an A-level. In 1998, a specific post-doctoral research station in Architecture was established. In 1999, the Architecture study was formally regarded as a key discipline by National Ministry of Construction. In 2000 and 2006, it again passed the national evaluations with an A-level. Currently, the Architecture Study maintains nationwide preeminence in its field.
The discipline in Civil Planning, one of the first of its kind in China, began to enroll postgraduate students in 1985, In 1998, it also passed the A-level national evaluation, and in 1999 the discipline was assessed as a key program by the Ministry of Construction. In 2003, a qualified doctoral degree program was founded. The research work in Civil Planning Department, because of its unique features, has been one of the best in China. With an A-class Academy of Urban Planning, students here have good opportunities to acquire practical skills as well as academic study.
The study of Art Design in the school is also one of the first in China. In 1980, Interior Design courses were given. In 1984, a separate program in Environment Art Design was established and set up the first EAD Master's program in China. In 1995, the undergraduate program was founded. In 2003, it received the official qualification to grant Master's degrees. Hitherto, the study of Art Design has earned its national reputation.
The School of Architecture has a faculty of 90, including 13 professors and 36 associate professors. There are currently 1,151 students: 582 undergraduates, 338 master's students, 115 doctoral students, 4 post-doctoral fellows and 112 engineering students.

Application time
For international students, the deadline for application is June 30 every year. The academic year begins on September 1.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: the applicants should have senior high school diploma or equivalent, under the age of 35, score list, in good health and HSK6 certificate or above.
For Master’s degree: the applicants should have Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, recommended by two associate professors or above, under the age of 35, score list, in good health and HSK6 certificate or above.
For Doctoral degree:the applicants should have Master’s degree or equivalent, recommended by two associate professors or above, notarized copy of a list of the courses and transcripts in whole master degree studies, in good health and HSK6 certificate or above.
