The School of Mathematical Sciences was founded on March 17th, 2004. Its predecessor was the department of mathematics, Heilongjiang University founded in 1958. School of Mathematical Sciences has set up 4 teaching units (department of mathematics and applied mathematics, department of information and computer science, department of mathematical statistics, teaching and research department of public mathematics) and one university-level key laboratory. Currently, this school has 57 full-time teachers, among whom 7 are professors, 24 are associate professors, 18 are lecturers and 8 are teaching assistants. 8 of the teachers are doctors, 29 are masters, 12 are studying for doctoral degree and 7 are studying for master’s degree. Besides, there is one provincial level famous teacher at this school.
At present, School of Mathematical Sciences has 4 master’s programs (basic mathematics, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, operational research and cybernetics) and 3 undergraduate programs (mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computer science, statistics). Besides, it has one key discipline of Heilongjiang Province (applied mathematics), 1 key discipline of Heilongjiang University (computational mathematics) and 2 key majors of Heilongjiang Province (mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computer science). Till the end of 2007, School of Mathematical Sciences has cultivated over 3,800 undergraduate and college students, over 100 masters. Among all previous students graduated from the School of Mathematical Sciences, over 100 have gained the doctoral degrees. Many of them have become the academic leaders and the backbone in relevant fields both at home and abroad. In 2004, the advanced algebra was chosen as the high-quality curriculum of Heilongjiang Province. In 2006, the mathematical analysis was chosen as the high-quality curriculum of Heilongjiang Province, etc.
The scientific research and education of this school has been developing rapidly. It has numerous characteristic and superior research fields, including mathematics, differential equation and numerical solution, inverse problem of mathematics and physics, mechanization of mathematics, control theory, functional analysis, etc. School of Mathematical Sciences actively carries out the academic exchange activities and creates good academic atmosphere, it has invited many famous experts and scholars to give lectures or academic reports in the school, such as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences- Li Daqian, the director of the mathematical department of Michigan Technological University- Alphonse, etc.

For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.
