Introduction
The School of Law was established with the express aim of broadening the choice of legal education available to students from China and elsewhere. The school was founded in 1988,offering an approach which places the operation of legal rules and institutions in their social and theoretical contexts.
The school, with 126 full-time members of staff, is able to offer specialized research supervision over a wide range of legal topics. Over 4000 students on different courses within law field.
The courses are designed to highlight the links that law has with other disciplines, though the principal focus remains on the study and understanding of law. It also aims at providing a working knowledge of China in the employment sphere; identifying change in contemporary employment relations, etc.
Career opportunities
LLB graduates may decide to complete their training and follow careers as barristers or solicitors – nationally around 50 percent of law graduates follow this route. They may also begin careers in, for example, the civil service, the probation service, trading standards, local government, private industry or commerce. Some go on to undertake further study and research towards qualification such as the LLM or PhD.
