The College of Agronomy was established in April, 1999, with the merging of Agricultural Department, Horticultural Department of former Inner Mongolia Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and the Plant Physiology, Plant Genetics and Breeding, and Plant Protection sections of former Inner Mongolia Forestry College. Its history could be traced back to the Agricultural Department of Inner Mongolia Institute of Agriculture & Animal Husbandry founded in 1958. It is one of the earliest and biggest departments in Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.
 
With the development in the past 50 years, the strength of the college management was increased dramatically. More than 6,000 talents of agricultural science and technology were graduated from the college, and work in 28 provinces all over the country contributing their knowledge and technologies to different areas.
 
There are 118 staffs in total, 28 of them were qualified to professors title and 34 to associated professors. 42 staffs are holders of doctoral degree and 9 are studying for the doctoral degree now. There are 11 doctoral supervisors and 45 master supervisors in total. Seven undergraduate specialties, such as agronomy, horticulture, ornamental horticulture, seed science and engineering, plant protection, plant science and technology and installation agriculture, were formed. There are over 1353 registered undergraduate students in the College now. One first-level discipline (Crop Science) and four second-level disciplines (Botany, Crop Cultivation and Farming System, Plant Genetics and Breeding, Floriculture) were authorized to confer doctorate degree; two first-level disciplines (Crops and Horticulture) and seven second-level disciplines (Botany, Crop Cultivation and Farming System, Plant Genetics and Breeding, Pomology, Phytopathology, Floriculture and Control of Agricultural Insect Pests) were authorized to confer master degree. Three first-level disciplines (Crops, Horticulture and Plant Protection) were authorized to confer extension-master degree. There are over 410 enrolled master and doctorate students and more than 50 of them are PhD candidates. The Crop Cultivation and Genetics Improvement lab and the Wild Rare Vegetable Germplasm Resources and Germplasm Innovation lab were authorized to key laboratories of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous.
 
In the past years, the College has been focusing the eyes on the combination of teaching, research and production and was offered more than 150 items of the National and Provincial Awards. 42 text books authorized by the state were compiled by the staffs of the college. More than 700 papers were published within the latest five years and 18 papers were cited by SCI, 2 papers by EI and 190 papers by CABS. Now, it is undertaking 25 National Nature Science Grants, and one "863" project and one "973" project from Ministry of Science and Technology, two significant achievements transformation projects, three "948" projects from Ministry of Agriculture, and 19 projects from Education Ministry, 21 key projects from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 40 Inner Mongolia Nature Science Grants, two international collaboration projects and 20 projects collaborated with enterprises. The total funding is more than 20 million.

Application Time
For international students, the academic year begins in September. The duration for application is from March 1st to June 30th.

Undergraduates: senior high school graduate; HSK Band 3 or above; in good health.
 
Master candidates: Have a Bachelor’s degree or above; HSK Band 3 or above; in good health.
 
Doctor candidates: Have a Master’s degree or above, HSK Band 3 or above; in good health.
