School of Economics has a long history and deep academic roots. The predecessor of the School, the Department of Economics, was established in 1960. A well-known economist Professor Chen Baoyin who is China's first translator of "Capital" of the Chinese version and another well-known economist Professor Peng Dixian have engaged in the research and education in economics in the subject of political and economic. They have done important pioneering work for the early research and dissemination of the Marxist economics in China. And also, the older generations of leaders, such as national well-known economist, Professor Liu Shibai and Professor Wang Shuyun, have done fruitful research and exploration in the area of the socialist market economy theory and practice, and the reform and development of economic system.

In recent years, based on exploring and constructing a top-notch innovative personnel training model for Theory Economics, innovating and reforming the personnel training mechanism, and promoting teaching content, curriculum, practice and quality education of theory of Economics, the institute is striving to promote the innovation of teaching philosophy, system and mechanism, to help the students to lay a solid foundation for modern economic theory, to stimulate theirs' innovation potential. Thus, we can form a training system which is conducive to the growth of the first-class talents. And then, with our efforts, we can train a group of wisdom and thinking innovative high-end top-notch talents who have good quality of philosophy, and a solid foundation of history. They are able to master the skilled use of methods of modern economics, and also able to have an independent view on the reality of the economic problems, in order to meet our nation's need of Theory Economics talents.

School of Economics has a relatively high level of running strength. Especially, it owns a national-level key subject PHD authorization point of Political Economy. There is a professional undergraduate subject (the training base of national economics talents), 4 Master subjects, 4 Professional Dr. Subjects and a post-doctoral research station. In 2007, the economics subject was named as "the first category of the construction points of characteristic subject" and "characteristic subject of undergraduate colleges and universities in Sichuan Province" of the national colleges and universities. Furthermore, "Political Economy" was named as state-level quality courses. In order to adapt to the needs of the innovation of 21 century personnel training mechanism, taking the "base" as a carrier, we have set up a "innovation experiment zone" for national economics' basic personal training, which has been approved by the Ministry of Education in 2007 as the national-level innovation experiment zone for personal training. "Experimental zone" would be created as a top-notch innovative personnel training platform with the form of gaining the master and doctor degree at the same time.

Until now, the college has 18 professors, 14 associate professors. There are 15 doctoral tutors, 32 master trainers, and a "Cheung Kong Scholars". There have been more than 30 teachers and students to come to the United States, Canada, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and other countries to pursue a degree, exchange and get high-level education.
