The history of Tianjin Normal University Education College can be traced back to the Education Teaching and Research Institute of Tianjin Normal College founded in 1975. Until November, 2006, the current name came to being.
Currently, Education College has education department, modern educational technology department, department of psychology and teacher education department. It offers 5 undergraduate programs, such as education (education management), education technology, applied psychology, preschool education and home economics. And it is equipped with research center of psychology and behavior, research center of curriculum and teaching, instructing center of mental health, research institute of teacher education, and research institute of modern education technology and central laboratory of educational science. In the medium term of 1980s, it was authorized to confer the master’s degrees of developmental psychology, curriculum and teaching methodology. In the middle of 1990s, it was authorized to confer the doctoral degree of developmental psychology and master’s degrees of foundations of education and educational technology. In 2003, it was authorized by the state council to confer the doctoral degree of psychology and build a center for post-doctoral studies. In 2006, it was authorized to confer the master’s degrees of education, history of education, pre-school education and comparative education. There are 463 undergraduate students of the five majors and 214 graduate students of education and psychology at this college, including 31 doctoral students of psychology.
Education College has a hardworking teaching team, which is full of vigor and vitality. Currently, there are 106 teaching and administrative staffs, in which, 75 are full-time teachers, 43% of the teachers are professors and 27% of the teachers are associate professors. Among the teachers, 40% are holders of doctoral degrees and 36% are holders of master’s degrees. Of the 33 master’s tutors, the education major occupies 17; educational technology major occupies 5; the psychology major occupies 11.
Education College has been always paying attention to the interscholastic exchanges and the teaching and scientific research cooperation with institutions of the same industry both at home and abroad. This college has held many large-scale and high-standard international and domestic academic conferences. It also invites lots of famous scholars and experts to give lectures and give education instructions in the college. Besides, it insists on sending teachers abroad for visit, inspection and international conferences. And all these contribute a lot to the domestic and foreign influences of the college.
