Established in 1924, Department of Philosophy was one of the earliest departments of Sun Yat-Sen University. There are 62 faculty members in this department including 56 full-time teachers, 25 professors, 13 associate professors and 10 lecturers. And among them, there are 26 teachers with Doctoral degree and 16 teachers with Master’s degree. In addition, the department hires 6 part-time teachers and among them there are 3 professors and 3 associate professors. Currently there are 794 students in the department including 193 undergraduates, 230 graduate students and 371 non-degree students.
The department offers 2 Bachelor programs, which are Philosophy and Logic; 7 Master’s programs(Chinese Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy, Ethics, Religious Studies and so on) and 6 Doctoral programs including Philosophy of Science & Technology, Ethics, Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Foreign Philosophy and Religious Studies.
Department of Philosophy, as a base for study and research, pays equal attention to the theoretical research. The department has set up 6 institutes as followed: Institute of Marxist Study, Institute of Logic & Comparative religion, Institute of Phenomenological Research, Institute of Science & Technology and Institute of Chinese Culture.
The Department also attaches great importance to the exchange and cooperation with other excellent universities. In recent years, they have established academic cooperation with Chinese University of Hong Kong and Institute of Sino-Christian Studies of Hong Kong.

Requirement for Admission
The applicants must hold the equivalent degree diploma, health certificate, copy of passport, application form, HSK 6 certificate and the students applying for Master’s and Doctoral degree should prepare 2 recommendation letters from associate professor or above.
