14-Day Beijing/Yangtze River/Chongqing/Xi’an/Suzhou/Shanghai

The great modern project: the Yangtze River Dam and of course, the marvelous Three Gorges scenery are the highlights of the tour.
 
Itinerary
 
Day 1 Arrive in Beijing. Travelers are warmly welcomed at the Capital Airport and transferred to the hotel.
 
Day 2 Visit the Tiananmen Square, the largest city-center square in the world. From the square, visitors enter the gate of the Forbidden City. This massive complex, the setting for film “the Last Emperor,” was the center of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. With almost 10,000 rooms, this remarkably well-preserved imperial palace is the largest palace in the world. After lunch we head to the northwest outskirts of Beijing where we will stroll through the Summer Palace, one of China’s grand imperial garden with its present outlines created under Qing emperor Qianlong from 1749 to 1764. This evening enjoy a famous Peking Duck welcome banquet.
 
Day 3 Today we visit the Great Wall of China in the morning. The pride of China and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Wall is truly one of the most amazing man-made structures. Snaking across mountainous northern China for thousands of miles, the Great Wall cuts an imposing figure that visitors to China remember for a lifetime. After lunch, we will drive to Ding Ling of the Ming Tombs. Ding Ling is one of the 13 Ming Imperial tombs. Its underground palace was opened in 1956. 27 meters below the earth and 1,195 square meters in area, the Palace was built of rock and stones, solid and formidable.
 
Day 4 This morning we visit the nearby Temple of Heaven, the place of worship for Ming and Qing Emperors prior to the seasonal harvests. The surrounding park is an excellent place to witness the locals practicing Tai Chi, calligraphy, dancing, and playing traditional music. After lunch, return to the hotel for some free time to relax, shop, or explore on your own. Dinner on your own.
 
Day 5 Fly from Beijing to Yichang, where we board our a 5-star cruising boat and overnight on the board.
 
Day 6 We begin the day early with an excursion to the Three Gorges Dam Project. Later, we begin our cruise upriver. Surrounded by gorges, we pass charming villages, lush terraced hillsides and historic landmarks dotting the riverbanks. Today we will pass Xiling Gorge and sail through 5-st shiplock.
 
Day 7 Today we venture ashore for an excursion to Shennong Stream and through the Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorges and continue cruising upriver.
 
Day 8 Today we dock to visit a local county and enjoy many activities on board.
 
Day 9 After docking in Chongqing, we head to the Chongqing Panda Garden for a glimpse of China’s national treasure, the Giant Pandas. Late afternoon we fly to China’s ancient capital of Xi’an. Overnight in Xi’an.
 
Day 10 Often referred to as the Eight Wonder of the World, the Terra-cotta Warriors excavation site houses one of the most important archeological finds of our times. The three pits contain more than 7,300 warriors, horses, and chariots that were crafted more than 2,000 years ago in honor of China’s first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang. After lunch, our tour continues on to the Big Goose Pagoda and the Ancient City Wall. The Pagoda is the symbol of the city. It was built 652 in the Tang Dynasty to safe keep the 657 volumes of Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by Monk Xuan Zang. The ancient city wall was built during the Tang Dynasty. It is the only complete city wall extant in China. The evening is highlighted by a Tang Dynasty Song and Dance Performance and a Chinese Dumpling Banquet.
 
Day 11 Board a morning flight to Shanghai and transfer to our private coach for a ride through China’s South-eastern plains toward our next destination of Suzhou. Visit the Suzhou’s local Silk Factory and tour on the Ancient Canal. Overnight in Suzhou.
 
Day 12 Stroll through the picturesque Zhuozheng Garden. Then visit Tiger Hill and to view its garden. Drive to Shanghai in early afternoon. We explore China’s largest city. Overnight in Shanghai.
 
Day 13 We begin our stay in Shanghai with a stroll through the Yu Garden and the Jade Buddha Temple. As one of the well-known garden of classical style south of the Yangtse River, Yu Garden is located in Chenghuangmiao (city god temple) in urban Shanghai. Jade Buddha Temple has two jade statues of Sakyamuni, one seated and one reclining, both brought from Myanmar. The seated one is 1.9 meters tall and was carved out of a single piece of white jade weighing one ton. Walk along the Bund. Enjoy the Chinese Acrobatic Show after dinner.
 
Day 14 Send to the airport for departure flight.
