Brief Introduction to ECUST
Founded in 1952 in Shanghai, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is an internationally preeminent, brilliantly characteristic, multi-disciplinary and research-oriented first-class university. It is one of the national key research universities directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education P.R.C. It has begun to accept international students since 1950s’.
ECUST comprises 15 full-time schools, 58 bachelor’s degree programs, 121 disciplines authorized to confer Master’s degree and 44 disciplines to confer Ph.D degree. Meanwhile, it also has Engineering Master degrees in 20 programs as well as the MBA program, MPA program and 5 post-doctoral centers. There are 7 national key subjects and 10 Shanghai key subjects among the ECUST academic units. Now, ECUST enrolls over 25,800 students and owns a high-lever research faculty of over 1,000 professors, associate professors and researchers.
ECUST has established long-term relationship of academic communication with more than 70 universities, enterprises and research institutes from America, Germany, Japan, England, Canada, Korea and Australia, etc. Among them, quite a few high-lever research universities have been established as ECUST’s sister universities or have sighed agreements and conduct cooperation mechanism in ways like joint-education, students and teachers exchange.

Application deadline is Jan. 15 for spring term and July 31st for autumn term.
Application Requirements
Undergraduate
Applicants must hold a high school diploma, be in good health, aged between 18 and 35 and with HSK lever 3 or above. If the applicants are not proficient enough in Chinese to follow the program, one-year Chinese to course can be arranged. To begin major study, HSK certificate lever 3 is required.

Master’s Degree
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, be in good health, aged between 18 and 35 and with HSK lever 3 or above. Most courses are taught in Chinese and some in English.

Doctoral Degree
Applicants must hold a master’s degree, be in good health, aged between 18 and 40 and with HSK lever 3 or above. Most courses are taught in Chinese and few in English.

General Advanced Student
Applicants are required to have at least a two-year study period in other universities, be in good health and aged between 18 and 45.

Language Student
Applicants must be in good health and aged between 18 and 50.

Everyone should pay deposit money of RMB 400 and accommodation fee for one semester at check-in time. All fees should be paid in cash in RMB.

There is an International students’ canteen on campus. Students can also dine in any dining hall inside the university. The cost for meal is about 20 RMB per day. Students can cook in the kitchen in each Int’l student building as well.
Airport Pick-up Service
The school provides airport pick-up service for students with a charge of 150RMB/person each time at Hongqiao airport and 350RMB/person each time at Pudong airport.
Payment
After submitting the application documents and “Application Form”, applicants should pay the application fee of 400RMB (about 58USD) and tuition fee to the university’s bank account.
Visa
Applicants should go to the Chinese Embassy in his country with Admission Notice, Visa Clearance Form (JW202) to apply for student visa to enter China (X visa or F visa).
Applicants who plan to study in China for over half a year should take physical examination before entering China no matter what Visa he is holding. The physical examination form can be obtained at the Chinese Embassies or Consulates.
Enrollment
International students must register and go through formalities for Residence Card at College of International Education ECUST at the designated with passport, visa and Admission Notice.

PROGRAM FEATURE
East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is the first university in China that is famous for its chemical and related programs. In the past 50 years, a great number of experts, senior research and technical talents have been graduated from ECUST. Meanwhile, the university also wins great popularity among international students from all over the world.
Chinese Training Course
STUDY PERIOD: Every September to January for autumn term and February to July for spring term.
4 class hours per day from Monday to Friday each week.
COURSES: Intensive reading, Extensive reading, Composition, HSK training, Oral Chinese, Listening comprehension, Chinese martial arts, Calligraphy, etc. There are several times of short-term trip every semester.
TUITION: RMB 17,000 per year, RMB 8,500 per semester.
Short-term Language & Culture Program
ECUST arranges different kinds of short-term language & culture programs for 2 to 6 weeks. The programs are held in every January and July. The minimum number of students for one class is 15. Arrangements for courses can be negotiated for a organized group.
Shanghai Government Scholarship
Type A is full scholarship, including tuition, fundamental teaching material fee, lodge fee; it provides insurance for major diseases and accidents; subsistence cost will be offered monthly, 1700 RMB for master students and 2000 RMB for PhD students.
Type B is parital-scholarship, including tuition, fundamental teaching material fee or lodging fee.
ECUST President Scholarship
ECUST has set up the “President Scholarship” program for international students. It is assessed according to the students’ academic performance.
