The history of College of Automation, Guangdong University of Technology can be traced back to the Electrical Engineering Department of Guangdong College of Engineering which was founded in 1958. Till now, it has a history of over 50 years. And it has cultivated nearly 10,000 students. In April, 2000, the former electrical engineering and automation department was renamed as the current College of Automation.
Since 1958, College of Automation has begun to engage in the scientific research and cultivation of the talents of automation and electrical engineering. Till now, it has formed a strong teaching team. Currently, there are 24 professors (including 6 doctoral tutors), 51 associate professors and 38 doctors at this college. The building area of the laboratory is 11,000 square meters. The total value of the teaching and scientific research equipments amounts to 39 million yuan. At present, there are 3,200 students at this college, including 2,900 undergraduate students, over 290 master students and over 40 doctoral degree candidates. College of Automation undertakes lots of scientific research projects at state-level, provincial and ministerial level every year. Besides, it has established close cooperative relations with many enterprises inside and outside the province. Many scientific research achievements have been popularized and applied in the enterprises and have gained great social and economic benefits.
College of Automation has college office, department of automation, department of electric power engineering, department of electrical measurement and control engineering, department of network engineering, department of electronic information science and technology and experimental center.
Currently, College of Automation offers 3 doctoral programs (control theory and control engineering, control science and engineering, electrical engineering), 11 postgraduate programs (control theory and control engineering, detection technology and automation equipment, systems engineering, pattern recognition and intelligent system, navigation, guide and control, electric power system and automation, electric machines and electric apparatus, high voltage and insulation technology, electrical engineering theory and new technology, circuits and systems) and 4 undergraduate programs--- automation, electrical engineering and automation, network engineering, electronic information science and technology.

Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must be under the age of 35 years, and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and having graduated from high school, academic records, have an HSK test score of grade 3 or above.
For Master’s degree: Applicants must be under 40 of age and in good physical condition, holding a non-China passport and a Bachelor’s degree, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above.
For Doctoral degree:Applicants must be in good physical condition and under 45 of age in principle, holding a non-China passport and a Master’s degree, have an HSK test score of level 5 or above, have 2 letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, academic records.
