Succeeded to the Chinese staff room and Linguistics Graduate School established in 1980 with Mr. Yan Xuequn as its first superintendent, Chinese Language and Literature Department was set up in 1985.
It has 35 teachers, 12 of whom are professors and 14 are associated professor and 15 of them have gained a doctor’s degree. 6 staff rooms subside to the department, respectively aimed at the research of Ancient Chinese, Contemporary Chinese, Foreigner-oriented Chinese Teaching, Chinese Ancient Literature, Chinese Contemporary Literature and Writing. Linguistic Research Journal newsroom, linguistic lab and information room, linguistic and literature research centers are its subsidiary bodies. Currently, there are over 200 undergraduate students, more than 40 postgraduates.
Chinese Department offers two bachelor’s programs (Chinese Language and Literature and Foreigner-oriented Chinese Teaching), four master’s programs (Linguistics and Applied Linguistic, Chinese Ancient Literature, Chinese Contemporary Literature,) and 1 doctor’s program (Linguistics and Applied linguistic).
In the past 5 years, the Chinese teachers had undertaken 10 national social science fund and provincial research projects, and some of them had been awarded by provincial excellent achievement of social science. They also had published a lot of academic works in the 20academic journal paper.
Since its establishment, the department of Chinese Language and Literature has paid great attention to the intercommunication with oversea schools and academic groups. In the recent 5 years, over 10 teachers had given academic lectures in America, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Russian, Singapore, Hongkong and Taiwan etc. Moreover it keeps a steady inter-department relationship with Gyeongsang National University in South Korea.
