School of Materials Science & Engineering now has an outstanding teaching team with balanced knowledge structure, research domain and age scale, it also has excellent scientific research infrastructure and facilities. At present, it has one part-time Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 19 supervisors of PhD candidates, 23 professors and 22 associate professors. At present, School of Materials Science & Engineering consists of six undergraduate specialties, which are Metal Materials Engineering, Inorganic Materials Engineering, Polymer Materials Engineering, Materials Shaping and Controlling Engineering, Composite Materials Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. There are 1200 undergraduates, 216 master graduates, and 47 PhD graduates.

 

Materials Science & Engineering is the key subject of Jiangsu Province, including Jiangsu Key Lab of Material Tribology, Key Lab of Metal-base Composite & Functional Material of Mechanical Industry, Jiangsu Key Lab of Photonic Manufacturing Science and Technology, Jiangsu Research Center of Aluminum-base Composite and Material Engineering & Technology, Jiangsu Model Center of Materials Science and Engineering Experiment Teaching. It has one Post-doctoral Research Station of Materials Science & Engineering, one Doctor Station of Materials Science, five Master Degree Station and two Fields in Master of Engineering. These research and teaching laboratories are furnished with state-of-the-art equipments for various materials research activities from materials processing to characterization and analysis, and high-level professional training.

 

Faculty and student research ranges from the purely scientific to applied studies. The current research areas includes: (1) Functional materials and low dimensional materials; (2) Photonic materials physics and micro-, Nano-fabrication; (3) Preparation and processing of advanced composite materials; (4) Modeling technology of high performance metal materials; (5) Friction materials and surface technology. A batch of original research achievements has been obtained.

 

In the past 3 years, many scientific research projects have been carried out in School of Materials Science & Engineering. The research budget is mostly from Chinese funding agencies, such as the State Science and Technology Ministry (863), National Natural Science Foundation of China, the State Education Ministry, National Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, as well as industries. 12 research achievements gained the National Patents and 15 items of scientific and technological advance reward have been honored by Ministry, Province and City. The members of the school published 18 works and textbooks, including 5 national projecting teaching materials. The total number of publications by the faculty has reached up to 600 in the past 3 years, above 200 of which have been indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. The School has close collaborations with other universities and industries at home and abroad, including Aachen TH, Universität Konstanz in Germany, University of Wollongong in Australia, Mie University in Japan, The University of Nottingham in England and BASF Company. Both faculty and students have received important national and international awards and recognitions.

 

School of Materials Science & Engineering actively develop university-industry cooperation to promote the industrialization of research achievements. A batch of university-industry cooperation bases have been established with more than 20 Large Enterprises and Military Enterprises, including Yue-jin automobile group, Changzhou diesel engine group, Xuzhou heavy machine limited company et al. New materials and products with high-tech have been developed.

For international students, the deadline for admission is August 15 every year. The final decisions of admission are made upon application materials, examination record and health examination record. The Admission Letter will be sent out by the International Education Exchange College before August 15.

 

For Bachelor’s degree: Be in good health condition, have senior high school diploma and good academic record, have basic Chinese language ability for non-English courses, have good moral character, applicants who apply for Bachelor programs conducted in English should have certain English proficiency.
