The College of Economics was originally the Commerce Department, where business program was offered to cater to the educational need of the overseas Chinese in South Asia in commerce and economics from its founding in 1918. In 1980, the college of Economics was formally established.
There are 156 faculties and staffs in the college, including 24 doctoral students’ advisers, 42 professors, and 47 associate professors. 46% of the regular faculties possess the doctor degree. 8 teachers of the College have gained honors as national outstanding teacher or Guangdong provincial outstanding teacher, 2 of them have won outstanding teaching honor from Fok Ying Tung Educational Foundation. A number of our faculties also take director positions in varied national academic organizations or take consultant positions in governments and corporations.
Now the college comprises of the following departments: Department of Finance, Department of Statistics, Department of Internal Economy & Trade, Department of Fiscal Taxation, and of research institutes, such as: Institute of Economy of Special Economic Zones in Mainland China, Hong Kong & Macao, Institute of Finance, and Japanese Economy Research Center.
The college features a wide variety of programs offered, excellent teaching quality, extensive academic exchanges, outstanding social service, and all these make the college become renowned inside and outside the country, especially in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and south-east Asia.
According to the guiding principles of the university that meeting the needs of Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese students, the college of economic is actively expanding international academic exchanges. Some faculty members have been invited to visit lecture or take advanced courses, or participate academic conferences in the U.S.A, Canada, Europe, Japan, Thailand, India, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong Malaysia, and Macao. The college has invited, in return, experts and professors from the above and other countries. Agreement on establishment of exchange programs have been reached with some intuitions abroad.
