D. Other programs
1. The IES’s Chinese Study Tour lessons are based primarily on Mudanjiang’s cultural & natural heritage, national culture, etc. as the main topics. Related and secondary topics are on natural scenery and folk cultures. At the same time, Chinese language will be the medium of instruction. The concept to learn as we travel will be implemented, with on-site study. There will also be seminars and performances during the tour. These will expand the students’ Chinese cultural knowledge, help them gain more in-depth understanding of Chinese culture and improve their oral language skills. This Chinese Study Tour is different from traditional Chinese language classes. It will define a new concept in the learning of Chinese language. Its specialty is in the “study as you travel” concept: to integrate the learning of a language while traveling; to extend indoor classes outdoors and into the natural as well as socio-cultural and historical environments; to learn as you travel, to understand as you experience life, and to improve through new discoveries. Being steeped in China’s natural environments, socio-cultures and folk customs, it is inevitable that students will experience true Chinese culture and have improvements in their communication skills.
2. Culture summer camp is based on Chinese culture, local customs, folk culture, etc. to provide culture and language experience. There will be school, natural and historical sites tours, featuring Chinese food and cooking lessons, seminars with Chinese students, Chinese calligraphy and martial arts lessons, etc.
3. Spring festival winter camp: The IES invites foreign university and high school students to learn about Chinese culture and experience the unique beauty of “The home of snow” during our Chinese spring festival. Spring festival is the start of the Chinese lunar new year when families celebrate and pray for a happy and prosperous new year. It is the most traditional Chinese holiday and it represents a big part of Chinese culture. Students will celebrate the festival with Chinese families and enjoy the beautiful snow castle and winter sports.
