South-Central University for Nationality
On South Lake of Wuhan, Hubei Province lies South-Central University for Nationalities, a comprehensive university founded in 1951 for China’s ethnic minority people with the State Committee of Ethnic Affairs of P. R. China as its sponsor. The campus with an area of 930,000 square meters surrounded by waters in three directions is impressive in its prettiness and tranquility and the building complexes of some 450,000 square meters in a leafy covering with a view of the sparking waters and green blue hills create an inviting image in modern as well as traditional style.
South-Central University for Nationality consists of colleges of Liberal Arts, Historical Cultures, Economics, Managements, Computer Science, Electronic Information Engineering, Foreign languages, Law, Chemistry and life Sciences and Adult Education, and departments of Preparatory, P.E, Post-graduates and Social Science. In addition, the university has 19 institutions or centers respectively for the researches of Ethnology, Higher Education for Ethnic Minority Cultures, Applied Chemistry, Plasma Physics and Biomedical Engineering. Nowdays, the university provides 38 subjects for the undergraduates, 10 subjects for the students of three-year career program and 25 degree courses for the graduates. South-Central University for Nationalities has established its status with unmistakable advantages and features as a multi-subjected comprehensive university.
SCUN has an enrolment of some 15,000 students and a staff of some 1,400 people with the faculty of 720 teachers, of which 103 are professors and 305 are associate professors. The university is equipped with a library with a collection of some 1,500,000 volumes of books in it, and an ethnographic museum, the unique of the country, in possession of some 10,000 artifacts from various ethnic communities as well as the advanced apparatus.
Along with the development of China’s higher education, SCUN quickens its steps of opening up to the outside. It has established intercollegiate relationship and exchanged students with a number of universities in America, Australia, Canada, Germany and South Korea. SCUN provides scholarship for foreign students who do exceedingly well in their studies. It sincerely welcomes foreign friends to come and study at our university.
Ⅰ.Entrance Qualifications and Application Procedure
1. Short-Term Classes (including vacational classes) : Applicants age 16 to 65, with a good health, are qualified to apply for study.
B.A (General Scholar) Program: Applicants should have the academic record and diploma equivalent to a Chinese high school graduate.
M.A Program: Students should possess a bachelor’s degree.
2. Application Fees and Deadline : U.S.$30 application fees paid on arrival.
The general scholar, postgraduate and master who want to begin their study in autumn, September, should apply before the end of June each year. And those who want to begin studying in spring, March, should apply before the end of December each year. No application deadline is set for Short-Term students. Tuition fees must be paid at registration.
3. Applicants are required to submit the following documents to the Foreign Affairs Office: Application form, Resume, copies of academic and graduation certificates and “Physical Examination Record for Foreigner(s)”.
