School of Architecture (ACE) is one of the earliest established schools with a history of 76 years in South China University of Technology. It consists of the Department of Architecture, the Department of City Planning, the Architecture Design Institute of South China University of Technology (the class-A design institute of China), National Key Laboratory of Subtropical Architecture, and South Architecture. It is one of the key schools of Project 211 and 985 financed by the central government. It boasts of a qualified faculty of 98 full-time teachers and researchers, including 41 full professors and associate professors (among them, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 14 doctoral advisors), more than 95% of whom have earned Ph.D. and master's degree. It now has an enrollment of 847 full-time undergraduates, 299 graduates, 91 doctoral degree candidates and 280 master's degree candidates of engineering.

The school offers the first-grade discipline doctor program of architectonics (including 4 second-grade disciplines: history and theory of architecture, architecture design and its theory, city planning and design, and science of architecture technology) and master's degree programs. It also has the first-grade discipline post-doctorate station of architectonics. Architecture design and theory is the national key discipline; and history and theory of architecture, architecture design and its theory, and science and technology of architecture are Guangdong key disciplines. It offers 3 undergraduate programs: architectonics, city planning and landscape architecture, the first two of which are Guangdong excellent disciplines, and it also has a master's degree programs of landscape architectonics.

School of Architecture, as a study, research and production base, pays equal attention to the theoretical research and the engineering application. It has taken the leading position in the country in the research of subtropical architecture science, large-scaled public architecture design, design of city planning, Lingnan landscape planning and design, rehabilitation and conservation of ancient architecture, Lingnan folk housing, etc. The School has been honored the first-class award of the world cultural heritage by UNESCO, more than 100 national, provincial gold and silver awards, and 10 provincial awards on research and teaching. It has been responsible for the construction of many significant buildings of Beijing Olympic Games, Shanghai World Expo, and Guangzhou Asian Games, thus making outstanding contributions to the economic development of our country.
