The School of Basic Medical Sciences was founded in 1953. When the war against Japan broke out, the school moved to Sichuan with the university. Then it moved back to Nanjing after the victory of the war. Nanjing Tiedao Medical College merged into Southeast University on April, 2000. The School of Basic Medical Sciences was set up on the base of the department of Nanjing Tiedao Medical College.
The school offers 2 doctoral programs, 10 master’s programs including Biology of Evolution, Pharmacology, Bioengineering, Genetics, Pathology, and Immunology and so on.
The school has a number of gifted and experienced experts. The teaching structure is rather reasonable. Among the teachers, there are professors with high prestige and energetic middle-aged teachers. And there are several postdoctoral academic leaders who have ever studied abroad. The School of Basic Medical Sciences rapidly improves its quality of teaching and research. Currently, it owns 1 provincial key subject, 1 provincial key laboratory, 1 key laboratory and 1 international laboratory.
The school is experiencing broad development in international exchange and cooperation. It has established partnerships with several universities and colleges in many countries and regions, including the USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Korea, France, Belgium, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
