Xinjiang Medical College began to recruit the undergraduate students of clinical medicine major in August, 1956. In October 15 of the same year, this college was formally established. At the beginning period of the college’s foundation, the central health department has transferred over 100 teaching and medical treatment backbones from Chinese Medical Sciences University, Shanghai Medical University, Shandong Medical University, etc. to support Xinjiang Medical College. And this has laid a good foundation for the construction of the teaching and medical treatment team.
Xinjiang Medical College has originally set a clinical medicine department (clinical medicine major) and an affiliated hospital with 500 sickbeds. In 1978, it added the medical science major and the second affiliated hospital with 500 sickbeds. And it began to recruit postgraduate students in the same year. The spare time college opened in 1960 began to recruit doctoral students of vasculocardiology. Besides, it has opened special course of Radio and Television University. 35 years after the college’s establishment, it has cultivated 145 graduate students, 5,966 university and college graduates (including 3,043 minority students).
Currently, Xinjiang Medical College has 4,087 teaching and administrative staffs, including 939 minority staffs. Of the 2,837 professional technicians, 367 are holders of senior technical titles, 814 are holders of medium technical titles. There are 2,181 undergraduate and junior college students at this college now.
At present, Xinjiang Medical College has one doctoral program and 34 postgraduate programs. There are 2 doctoral candidates, 71 master candidates and 710 continuing education students. The multi-level teaching style has promoted the development of the education. Currently, Xinjiang Medical College has 50 teaching and research sections. During the teaching, the college can offer a preparatory course class for the minority students who can’t understand Chinese well. And it can arrange the classes according to the conditions of the students.
