Chinese Language Program
The mission of our Chinese Mandarin Program is to tailor it to fit your Chinese level.
One tailor-made example is the following:
General Intensive Courses
To meet the different needs of all students, three levels of programs (elementary, intermediate and advanced) and five sub-level classes (A, B, C, D and E) are designed to correspond with the HSK standards (HSK is the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, an internationally recognized Chinese language placement test). Each class can be conducted either independently or interactively with both short-term and long-term programs available for students of different Chinese levels. All classes are small in size, with each class having no more than 20 students.
Language Pledge
Intermediate and advanced level students will sign a language pledge at the beginning of the program. Elementary students will sign a pledge at the beginning of the 10th week. Mandarin will be the only language used in the classrooms and the tutorial sessions, as well as organized activities.
Independent Excursion
The school will organize a weekend trip during the term. A list of options includes: Wu zhen (famous Southern China water town), Mount Tianmu (UN recognized national forest park), Suzhou Gardens (renowned traditional Chinese-style gardens), etc. An oral presentation and/or a written report, depending on your Chinese level, may be required.
Field Trips
Academic field trips to museums and historical sites will be organized. These visits will differ from the normal tourist sightseeing. Readings will be required, student presentations will be given in Chinese.
One-on-One Tutorial Sessions
☆ This is optional for you. You will be required to pay an extra fee.
One-on-one tutorials will be held daily at a time chosen by you. Your personal tutor will be a Chinese student carefully selected to meet your level of language expertise. Many will have had at least one semester of tutoring experience. Your tutor will take you to places in Hangzhou such as the West Lake, local markets, and residential communities once a week, allowing you to put into practice what you have learned in the classroom.
Optional Courses In English
Students will have opportunities to take optional courses delivered in English besides their language studying.
