I. About CQMU
    Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), founded in 1956, is a key university under the administration of Chongqing Municipal Government with an integrated educational system of Bachelor's, Master's, Doctor's and Postdoctoral programs in medicine as well as other related fields.
    It is one of the 30 or so medical universities in China which are approved by Ministry of Education in China to enroll foreign students to study the English-medium MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) program. It is also listed among the Chinese medical universities in WHO’s official website and is recognized by ECFMG (Educational Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates) in the United States.
Since 1980’s, it has been enrolling foreign students to study medicine. At present, 605 foreign students from 21 countries are pursuing their doctor dream in the university.
 
Organization  The university has 5 affiliated hospitals directly under its administration, which are all rated as “Upper First-class Hospital” in China. There are more than 6,000 beds in the hospitals. The annual outpatient visits reach 5.54 million and the annual inpatient visits 150,000.
Besides, it has 5 affiliated hospitals indirectly under its administration, 27 teaching and clinical practicing hospitals, 10 colleges, 6 departments and a nursing school. Other two affiliated hospital are now under construction.
Program The university offers 5 postdoctoral programs, 26 Doctor’s programs, 53 Master’s programs and 46 specialties for undergraduates. It has 4 state key disciplines and 43 municipal key disciplines. It also has 3 state key laboratories of Ministry of Education, one state key laboratory of Chongqing and Ministry of Science & Technology, one national engineering research center, 18 municipal key laboratories, 11 research institutes, 6 research centers and 22 research laboratories.
Staff The university has a staff of 4,824 personnel, of which over 300 are professors and over 800 associate professors. There are 188 Ph.D. supervisors. Many of them enjoy the special government allowances or have been selected into some national programs, such as “Project for Millions of Talented People of New Century”, “Cheung Kong Scholar & Innovative Team Program”, “Project for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities” and “Project for Trans-century Talents” etc.
Students At present, a total of 26,397 students are studying in the university, including 406 Ph. D candidates and 2,919 Master candidates.
Campuses CQMU has two campuses which cover an area of 2.79 million square meters. The main campus is located in the downtown area of Chongqing. Geographically, it is well situated in the city, within easy reach to restaurants, hospitals, shops, post offices, banks, launderettes, swimming pools and gyms. It is only about a 35-minute ride from the university to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. Buses and monorails which lead to various parts of the city are just outside the university.
The new campus, which was open in 2007, is located in a quiet and beautiful area of the city, with shades of green trees and flowers in blossoms in all seasons. Students from various countries are warmly welcome to CQMU.
II. Programs
CQMU offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor’s program only in autumn semester which begins in September each year.
1.      Bachelor’s Program:

Length of Schooling: 6 years (5 years’ academic study & 1 year’s internship)

2. In the 6th academic year, the students of Clinical Medicine (MBBS) who choose to do their internship in their home country or other countries, other than in CQMU, only need to pay 20% of the tuition fee of that year.
3. Students must live on campus in their first year. Two students share one room with toilet, shower and necessary furniture and electrical appliances.
4. Bedding should be paid at Overseas Students Office of CQMU after the students arrived.
5. The damage deposit will be refunded as the case may be upon graduation.

VI. Scholarship
 

Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship (Type I) is provided by Chongqing Municipal Government for foreign applicants with the aim to help them pursue academic study and research in Chongqing. Foreigners who wish to study in Chongqing Medical University are entitled to submit application for the scholarship to Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Medical University before the deadline.
There are two categories of the scholarship:

Note: Mayor Scholarship (Type I) is a one-time one. The exact amount may vary in different years.
1. Eligibility:
1)        The applicant wish to study at least one academic year in Chongqing Medical University.
2)        The applicant must be of non-Chinese citizenship, must be healthy mentally and physically and must be under 40.
3)        The applicant can be the student of Bachelor’s program, Master’s program, PhD program or the training program.
4)        The applicant must satisfy the admission requirements of Chongqing Medical University for foreign students.

1. Mayor Scholarship
1) Application deadline: March 30
2) Individual applicants: Submit application materials directly to Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Medical University by email or by post.
3) Applicants through CQMU authorized consultancies: Submit the application materials to the consultancies.
2. Program of Chongqing Medical University
1) Application deadline: August 30
 Those who want to apply for Mayor Scholarship need to submit the application materials before March 20.
2) Individual applicants:
Submit application materials (photocopies except Non-criminal Record) directly to Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Medical University by email or by post. The Physical Examination Record for Foreigners can be submitted after the first review of the application materials.
3) Applicants through CQMU authorized consultancies:
Submit the application materials (photocopies except Non-criminal Record) to the consultancies. The physical examination in Physical Examination Record for Foreigners can be submitted after the first review of other application materials.
4) As for visiting program, CQMU accepts applicants in spring and autumn semesters which begin from March and September respective. Applicants should apply from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 for the spring semester, and from July 1 to August 15 for the autumn semester. The length of schooling is flexible.
  
1. Health requirements
Good health is required of the students. Before coming into China, applicants must have a physical examination at the local hospital in their home country and get a formal certificate (the vacant Physical Examination Record can be downloaded).
After they enter China, according to the requirements of the Chinese government, they must get the Physical Examination Record verified or have another physical examination at their own cost.
Anyone who fails to meet the health standards for foreign students required by the Ministry of Education of China must leave China immediately. The travel expenses will be paid by the students themselves.
2. Related diseases
1)      Quarantinable infectious diseases: plague, cholera, yellow fever.
2)      Infectious diseases to be monitored: influenza, poliomyelitis, dengue, typhinia, typhus, malaria.
3)      Diseases leading to exit from China: mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis.
Other health requirements for foreign medical students shall be the same as those for Chinese medical students.
3. Notes for having physical examination in applicants’ home country
The following requirements must be followed. Otherwise the documents will be regarded as invalid.
1)        Physical Examination Record must be issued by a public hospital or a health center. If the record was issued by a private hospital, the medical practitioner’s signature and special notarization are both needed.
2)        The photo in the Physical Examination Record must bear an official stamp on the perforation.
3)        Original report of blood test for HIV and SYPHILIS which bears the official stamp is required.
4)        Original report of chest X-ray test for TUBERCULOSIS which bears the official stamp is required.
5)        The official stamp on the above-mentioned documents should be the same.
6)        The validity of the above-mentioned documents is six months.
 
1. Registration
After the application is approved, CQMU will post to applicants Admission Notice of Chongqing Medical University and Visa Application Form of Foreign Personnel (JW202 form) directly or through consultancies.
The applicants can apply for X visa at the Chinese Embassy /Consulate in their home country with Admission Notice of Chongqing Medical University, Visa Application Form of Foreign Personnel (JW202 form) and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners.
After getting the visa, the students can go through the registration procedures at CQMU with the application materials (original copy) within the stated time in Admission Notice. Those who are late for registration will not be accepted except in some pre-approved cases. All the fees must be paid off within three months after the registration time. Otherwise the registration will not be completed and the applicants shall be disqualified for admission.
When each academic year starts later, the students shall pay off the fees within six weeks and register with related office of CQMU. Those who fail to do so will not be registered for the new academic year and their student status will be revoked according to the university regulations.
2. Chinese Language Proficiency
During the study in CQMU, the students who study in English still need to take Chinese courses arranged by the university and pass the exam at the end of the course study.
The MBBS students who will do their internship in the affiliated hospitals of CQMU must meet the requirements of the university in their Chinese language proficiency. Those who fail to meet the requirements will not be eligible to do their internship until they meet them.
