Founded in 1958, Central South University of Forestry and Technology (CSUFT), a multidisciplinary university, has its specialized branches of science, engineering, agriculture, arts, law, economics, management and education, and has been authorized to offer a comprehensive range of programs including bachelor, master, doctor’s programs and post-doctoral programs. The university sets up 20 colleges, 4 departments, 3 institutes and 1 center, with more than 1,800 members in the faculty, 78 doctor supervisors, 138 professors, 295 associate professors, and over 23,000 full-time students. The area of the campuses is about 1,400,000 square meters, the building space is 639,500 square meters, the total value of permanent assets: RMB 602,000,000 yuan, the total value of experimental facilities: RMB 108,000,000 yuan, the collection of library: 1,983,000 volumes. In 2004, the university was appraised as “Excellence” in the Undergraduates Teaching Evaluation by Ministry of Education of China.
The College of Overseas Students of CSUFT is an institute in charge of enrollment and management of overseas students, and of Chinese teaching and training for overseas students. It consists of General Affairs Office, Teaching Affairs Office, Overseas Students Affairs Office and Chinese Teaching & Training Section for Overseas Students.
Currently, the College has 25 staff members, of whom 10 are professors and associate professors, and 15 are holders of doctor or master’s degree.
By 2006, a large mansion with the area of 15,000 square meters for international exchange in CSUFT will have been built, which is multi-functioned for teaching, accommodation and entertainment, with modern multi-media classrooms, language labs, library.
With the improvement of teaching conditions, more and more overseas students come to study in CSUFT, of whom quite a lot have been conferred to various diplomas and academic degrees after their systematic studies.
