School of Management of Dalian University of Technology is the same entity with the National Center for Chinese Industrial Science and Technology Management Development (Dalian), which was set up by the Chinese government and American government. The SMDUT was established in 1986, which was composed of Department of Management Engineering and Institute of Systems Engineering. The academician Wang Zhongtuo, the superintendent of Institute of Systems Engineering, was the first Dean of the School of Management.
As the National Center for Industrial Science and Technology Management Development (Dalian) was set up in 1980, Department of Management Engineering was established. Institute of Systems Engineering was authorized by the Ministry of Education in 1978. Therefore Dalian University of Technology is one of the six universities that first set up management subject and at the same time it is one of the first institutions that owned schools of management.
Nowadays, the disciplines set up by School of Management include 3 fields, which are management, engineering and science and relate to 5 level-1 and 16 level-2 disciplines. Now it owns a high-level academic team led by the academician Wang Zhongtuo, including 25 professors, 42 associate professors and 26 doctoral supervisors.
So far, School of Management has developed extensive collaborative relations with universities of America, Canada, France, Holland, Japan, Australia and Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, etc. on academic exchanges, joint research and programs. It not only pays attention to cultivate students but also to the young teachers. At the same time not only the current construction but also the long-term development becomes the focus of attention. Therefore the main task of School of Management is to construct disciplines and foster academic development.
