School of Art Hubei University was set up in September, 2003. Currently, it consists of Chinese literature department, journalism and media department, ancient books sorting institute, etc. There are 91 teaching and administrative staffs, 991 full time undergraduate students and 218 master degree candidates at this school.
The School of Art now has a high-standard teaching and scientific research team. There are 19 professors, 6 distinguished professors, 4 doctoral tutors, 17 associate professors, 27 doctors, two provincial level experts, 4 academic leaders of provincial level key disciplines in this team.
Currently, the School of Art has two provincial level key disciplines-- classical Chinese literature and Chinese classical documents. It also has 3 University-level key disciplines--- modern and contemporary literature, Chinese Philology and journalism. Besides, it has 4 undergraduate programs--- Chinese Literature, Chinese language and literature, journalism and advertising, in which, the Chinese literature is the personnel training and scientific research base of national liberal arts basic subject. Currently, this school has been authorized to confer doctor’s degree of second-level discipline and master’s degree of first-level discipline. It has 8 master’s programs, such as classical Chinese literature, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, linguistics, literature and art, Chinese classical documents, journalism, etc.
The School of Art is well equipped with teaching and experiment facilities. There are nearly 70,000 books, over 400 kinds of Chinese and foreign languages’ periodicals in the library. Besides, it has national liberal base computer lab, journalism photographic laboratory, TV news laboratory, multi-media classrooms, etc.
The School of Art emphasizes the students’ cultivation of manipulative ability and comprehensive quality. It has launched 5 student associations, such as humanity rostrum, Hailu Literary Association, film review association, Yixuan Model Team, etc. In February, 2006, the Humanity rostrum has been chosen as the 2nd national excellent association among the universities of China by Central Committee of the Communist Young League, Ministry of Education and All-China Students’ Federation.
