The School of Law was established with the express aim of broadening the choice of legal education available to students from China and elsewhere. The school was founded in 1988，offering an approach which places the operation of legal rules and institutions in their social and theoretical contexts.
The school, with 126 full-time members of staff, is able to offer specialized research supervision over a wide range of legal topics and different courses in law field for over 4000 students.
Peking University Law School has been setting up or changing its disciplines within a century. The classification of disciplines and the arrangement of courses have already kept ahead in China before 1949. After 1949, especially after the resuming of the normal student-enrolling system of colleges and universities in 1977, the school became the most or relatively early one training its own Master postgraduates or Doctoral candidates in all disciplines concerning law in China. At present, the disciplines related to law are rather complete in the school. Among the disciplines, Law Theory, Constitutional Jurisprudence & Administrative Jurisprudence, Criminal Jurisprudence and Economic Jurisprudence are key ones in China.
The modern legal system of China developed and evolved under the background of “the dissemination of Western learning in Late-qing China”. Always adhering to the spirit of opening, Peking University Law School keeps close ties with overseas law circles and legal practice circles. At present, Peking University Law School has already established continual and steady exchange & cooperation relations with many overseas universities and colleges such as Japan Niigata University Law Department, Singaporean National University Law School, The Faculty of Law, Canada University of British Columbia Law School, U.S.A. Colombia Asian-Pacific Law Research Institute, Yale University Law School, California Berkeley University Law School, Michigan Law School and so on.

Application time
For Bachelor’s degree, the application time is March 3 to March 7.
For Master’s degree and Doctoral degree applicants, the duration for application is September 15 to December 15. The academic year begins in September.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree: Applicants should have high school diploma, 3 recommendation letters by 3 associate professors or above, academic records, health certificate and HSK6 certificate, be or above 18 years old.
For Master’s degree: Applicants should have Bachelor’s degree, 3 recommendation letters by 3 associate professors or above, academic records, health certificate and HSK6 certificate, under the age of 40.
For Doctoral degree: Applicants should have Master’s degree, academic records, 3 recommendation letters by 3 associate professors or above, health certificate and HSK6 certificate, under the age of 45.
