4. Application Qualifications
Applicants should be Non-Chinese citizens, senior high school graduates, over 18 and under 40 years old, in good health, and with reliable financial support and custody.
5. Chinese Proficiency Requirements and Entrance Examination
1. Programs in Hongkou Campus
1) Chinese Language majors require applicants have HSK grade 3 or have one semester’s full-time Chinese training. Those, with HSK grade 5 and one year’s full-time Chinese training in Chinese university, may be enrolled as a sophomore after passing an Entrance Examination provided by College of International Cultural Exchange. The date of the Examination will be declared at http://oisa.shisu.edu.cn.
2) International Business and Trade (Chinese) and Business Administration (Chinese) require applicants have HSK grade 3 or equivalence.
2. Programs in Songjiang Campus require applicants have Chinese proficiency of HSK grade 6 or equivalence and pass Entrance Examinations in English, Chinese and Mathematics in Shanghai in early June. The exact examination date and place will be declared at http://oisa.shisu.edu.cn on May 20.
6. Application Materials

2) Diploma and academic record in original or notarized copy in English or Chinese. Applicants, who are about to graduate, can submit a certification of upcoming graduation.
3) Photocopy of HSK certificate.
4) Applicants who want to be enrolled as a sophomore or junior in Chinese Language majors shall also submit the certificate of full-time Chinese training and academic record in original or notarized copy in English or Chinese.
5) Photocopy of passport.
6) 4 passport photos (in size of 5cm * 4cm).
7) Application fee: 450 RMB (or 65 USD).
8) Entrance Examination fee: RMB 300 (or 45 USD), only for the programs in Songjiang Campus.

7. Acceptance and Visas
1) SISU checks applicant’s application materials.
2) Once accepted, the applicant will receive an Acceptance Letter and a “Visa Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China” (Form JW202), and a Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners.
3) Applicant shall take a physical examination no more than 4 months in advance of the date he is required to study at SISU in a national or public hospital to complete the Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners with original copies of test reports/data sheets attached. If in China, applicant may take a physical examination at a local Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
★ Applicant with a Chinese Residence Permit doesn’t need to take a physical examination.
4) With these documents the applicant can go to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate for visa application.

8. Registration
Applicant shall bring his Acceptance Letter, Form JW202, Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (with original copies of test reports/data sheets attached) and passport and register with SISU at required time. Meanwhile, he is required to pay the tuition and fees and buy insurance. If one cannot register as required because of some problems, he has to inform the Office of International Student Affairs in advance. Those who are late without reason will be disqualified for enrollment. After registration, the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners shall be verified by Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. If not qualified, he should re-take a physical examination.
9. Tuition and Fees (in RMB)

Intensive Chinese Language Program (2010)
1. Teaching Target and Goals
The Intensive Chinese Language Program is specially orchestrated for the international students who are going to study undergraduate programs in China, and those who want to improve their Chinese proficiency in a short term. The program aims at helping the international students, within a short period of time, construct their own Chinese language system, do daily communication in Chinese and speak or discuss on a topic in Chinese by focusing on Chinese lexicology and grammar teaching. After completing one academic year’s course of the program, the students’ Chinese proficiency is expected to meet the requirements of entering an undergraduate program in China and reach HSK grade 6.
2. Training Courses
1) Basic Chinese Language Courses, including Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation.
2) HSK Intensive Training Courses, focusing on intensive training in the aspects of Chinese listening, grammar, reading and comprehensive Chinese.
3. Level Placement
This program has two levels which are beginning and elementary.
1) Students who don’t have any knowledge of Chinese enter a beginning level class.
2) Students who are in elementary level or have one semester’s full-time Chinese training in Chinese university enter an elementary level class.
4. Length of Schooling
This Program lasts half a year (one semester) or one year. Every year has two semesters. Spring Semester opens in late February and Fall Semester opens in September. The exact opening date is available in Acceptance Letter. There’re 36 teaching hours per week.
5. Class Size: About 15 students per class.
6. Application Deadline: December 31 for Spring Semester and June 30 for Fall Semester.

Business Chinese (Intensive Program) (2010)
1. Teaching Target and Goals
This Program is designed to improve students’ language skills within a short period of time and help them be adept in using Chinese in business activities. It’s more suitable for the students who hope to do business in China or with China as early as possible and have a strong desire of mastering Chinese language soon.
2. Teaching Goals
This Program focuses on training students to have the knowledge of business and the capabilities of using business language. After completion, students can be competent for the jobs of business and trade. It mainly aims at: 1) helping students master the skills of speaking and communicating in Chinese; 2) helping students have a good basis on doing business with Chinese by learning and training of the vocabulary, drills, specialized knowledge of business Chinese; 3) helping students realize the economic life and business practice in China by learning in class and practice in society, improving their capabilities of understanding business articles by training students’ reading skills, and training their capabilities of applying business Chinese by simulative practice in a business context.
3. Training Courses

Summer Chinese Language Program (2010)
1. Curricula and activities
Courses: Mainly Chinese courses including Listening Comprehension, Conversation and Reading.
Courses load: 20 teaching hours per week, 4 teaching hours each morning (8:30-11:50), Monday through Friday. Also available are elective courses such as Chinese Characters, Chinese History, Contemporary Chinese Economy, Chinese Calligraphy, Traditional Chinese Painting, Taijiquan (shadow boxing) and Chinese Wushu. The minimum enrollment for each course is 20 students. These courses are taught in the afternoon.
Activities: ① Inner city tours are offered once a week (scenic spots, museums, acrobatics etc.)
② Weekend tours are available at students’ own expense.

Accommodation
1) SISU Guesthouse, an 18-storey building, built in 2000 and located on campus of SISU, is equipped with central air-conditioning. Inside there is a cafeteria, a grocery, a beauty parlor and an ATM. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room has a private bath, a telephone, a TV set, internet access, etc. There’s a communal use kitchen each floor, with a washing machine, a fridge and a microwave oven.
Single room: 110 RMB per day; Double room: 65 RMB per person per day.
For short-term students during summer or winter vacation, the cost of a double room is 65 RMB per person per day and single room 115 RMB per day.

2) SISU Hotel, an 18-storey building, built in 1996, is located at 555 Chifeng Road with a distance of 5-minute walk from the campus. The Hotel, equipped with central air-conditioning, inside has a cafeteria, a grocery and a beauty parlor. Both double rooms and single room are available. 3) The Foreign Experts’ Building, a multiple-storey building built in 1994, is located at 121 Guangling No.1 Road with a distance of ten-minute walk from the campus. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room has an air-conditioner, a private bath, a telephone and a TV set.
Single room: 85 RMB per day; Double room: 50 RMB per person per day.
4) Dormitory in Songjiang Campus：a three-storey building built in 2001, is located on Songjiang Campus of SISU. Both double rooms and single rooms are available. Each room has an air-conditioner, a private bath, a telephone and a TV set.
Single room: 90 RMB per day; Double room: 55 RMB per person per day.
5）Outside-campus lodging is allowed when student gets permissions of his custody and the Office of International Student Affairs. And a registration shall be done at the Office of International Student Affairs.

Chinese Language Program (2010)
1. Length of Schooling
Half a year up to 2 years. Every year has two semesters. Spring Semester opens in late February and Fall Semester opens in September. The exact opening date is available in Acceptance Letter.
2. Training Courses
1) Basic Chinese Language Courses include Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation of various levels.
2) Free-charged Elective Courses include
- Courses without needing Chinese basis, such as Chinese Characters Writing, Calligraphy, Taijiquan, Paper Cutting, Chinese Elocution, Chinese Language Partners;
- Courses needing Chinese basis, such as HSK Tutoring, Chinese Modern History, Modern Literature, Security Investment, International Investment, Chinese-Foreign Cultural Exchange History, E-Business;
- English-taught courses, such as lectures on Chinese studies.
