Located in Hangzhou, a historical city blessed with rich resources, talented people and prosperity, the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University is a provincial key industrial university with distinct characteristics. It has disciplines in science, industry, literature, economy, management, law and education. In April 1999, the university changed the name of Zhejiang Silk Industrial College into Zhejiang Engineering College under the approval of theMinistry of Education. It was re-named as Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in May 2004 with the approval from the Ministry of Education.
The university consists of four campuses and covers an area of 140 hectares. It has 17 affiliated colleges, 1 independent college and 49 programs for bachelor degree of which 11 are provincial key programs and 4 are the characteristic program of the Ministry of Education. The university also owns 2 programs for doctors degree, 4 first-level disciplines for masters degree, 30 second-level disciplines for masters degree, 5 engineering programs for masters degree and 5 master program for full-time teachers in high schools. It currently has nearly 16,500 full-time undergraduates and masters of whom more than 1,600 are masters and 5,000 are students for adult and continuous education and more than 8,000 students studying in the independent college.
Boasting profound teaching facilities, the university has more than one thousand and seven hundred staff--nearly five hundred of them with associate senior title or higher titles including 170 with senior title. The university owns one Innovation Group of the Ministry of Education, six State Bai-Qian-Wan Talents, four teachers in the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, thirty-nine doctor advisors, forty-four young and middle-age academic leaders in Zhejiang’s high schools, thirty-six primary and secondary candidates of Zhejiang’s “New Century 151 Talent Program”, thirty professors with special government allowance granted by the State Council and more than one hundred and seventy shared, part-time and guest professors.
The university takes discipline construction as the priority and focuses on scientific research. It has two top priority provincial disciplines in the first batch, eight provincial key disciplines, one key laboratory for the Ministry of Education, one engineering research center of the Ministry of Education and one State Demonstration Center for Experiment and Education, two provincial key laboratories, seven provincial research platforms. It has undertaken series of national scientific and technological projects, national, provincial research projects in different field, and have won over one hundred and seventy prizes for scientific researches of which four second prizes of state technological invention, two second prizes of state technological improvement, one Luxun Literature Prize and nearly sixty provincial prizes. The university has spent over RMB 180 million on scientific research so far and has been cooperating with hundreds of enterprises in the country on technology.
The university insists on the school motto of Stressing Virtues, Valuing Cultivating and Improving Moral and puts education first. It was assessed as excellent in the undergraduate education level evaluation launched by the Ministry of Education in 2004. The university owns two state fine courses and some of its education achievements won national and provincial prizes.
Many of the students gained good results in the national, provincial and municipal scientific competitions and international fashion design contents. The students work around the country and the world after graduation and they are welcomed by society for their conscientious style and innovative abilities. The minimum score for enrollment and primary employment rate rank high in Zhejiang Province.

Modern teaching buildings, laboratories, information centers, phonetic center, network center, sound sports facilities and information platform with network were built for the university.
