The Faculty was first established in 1953 and changed its name several times. It was called Petroleum Drilling and Production Department first, and then Petroleum Development, with programs in oil and gas drilling, production and industrial economy. With the establishment of University of Petroleum-Beijing Campus, the department was renamed as Petroleum Engineering Department, and its faculty members have grown from 20 to 60.
Now the Faculty offers master and doctoral programs in the following three fields: Oil and Gas Drilling Engineering, Oil and Gas Development Engineering, Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, and B.Eng. program in Petroleum Engineering and Oil & Gas Storage and Transportation. Since 1981, 24 doctoral students, 295 postgraduate students and 190 undergraduate students have graduated from the Faculty. Most of them have become the backbone and the leadership in their work fields. They have made great contributions to the development of China Petroleum. The students are well-trained and popular with the employers.
In the faculty, there are 4 research institutes: Oil and Gas Well Engineering Research Institute; Oil and Gas Development Engineering Research Institute; Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Research Institute; Petroleum Engineering Research Institute, including Petroleum Engineering Research Group and Fluid Mechanics Research Group.
The Faculty has friendly relationship with China government, enterprises, petroleum institutes and other related corporations. Meanwhile, it has established a wide and long-term cooperation with universities from US, Canada, Australia, England, etc. It puts great emphasize on the innovation of teaching theories and courses structure whish provides a good learning atmosphere for the students at home and abroad.

Undergraduate students: 4years
Postgraduate students: 2-3years

Application time
The application for Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Doctoral degree: the applicants should apply 2 months before the academic semester begins.
The spring semester begins on February 20. The fall semester begins on September 1.
Entry requirements
For Bachelor’s degree:
Be above 18 years old, senior high school graduate, HSK certificate or above, in good health.
For Master’s degree:
Have Bachelor’s degree or above, under the age of 35, HSK certificate or above, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good health.
For Doctoral degree:
Have Master’s degree or above, under the age of 40, HSK6 certificate or above, academic score list, 2 recommended letters from two associate professors or above, in good health.
