Covering the first-class disciplines of Biology, Biological Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Agriculture, Preventive Medicine, School of Life Science and Food Engineering is a comprehensive one which consists of Department of Biological Engineering, Department of Food Science and Engineering, Department of Biological Technology, Experimental Center of Biology, Institute of Biological Engineering, Insitute of Food Science and Technology Institute of Applied Biology, Sino-German Joint Institute, and Sino-German Food Engineering Center.

 

This school consists of 6 undergratuate specialities which are biological sciences, Biological Technology, Biological Engineering, Aquaculture, Food Science and Engineering and Food Quality and Safety. It was authortized to award Master’s Degree in 2 first-class disciplines and 4 second-class disciplines. The 2 first-class disciplines are Biology (consists of 13 second-class disciplines) and Food Science and Enginnering (consists of 4 second-class disciplines), while the 4 second-class disciplines are Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Fermentation engineering, Garden plants and Ornamental Horticulture, and Aquaculture. Besides, this school also has the right to award Docotrate Degree in the specialities of Food Science and Engineering (first-class discipline), Nutrition and Food Hygiene (second-class discipline), and Zology(second-class discipline). With the mobile post-doctoral station, the speciality of Food Science and Enginnering is one of the key national disciplines. Other specialities such as Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Zology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are assessed as Jiangxi provincial key specialities.

 

This school also boasted itself by owning a key Laboratory of Food Science under the Ministry of Education of China, a Jiangxi Provincial key Laboratory of Food Biological Technology, and Jiangxi Provincial key Laboratory of Molecular biology and Genetic Engineering.

 

In recent years, more than 300 reseraching programs at the provincial and ministerial level or above have been conducted by this school, and the researching accomplishment won 1 national second-class teaching achievement award, 1 third prize of National Invention Award, 32 provincial and ministerial awards in Scientific and Technological Achivements and Progresses, more than 2000 published papers and more than 80 published books.

 
Currently, there are188 teachers in this school, with 124 are full-time ones. Among all the teachers, 44 hold Doctorate Degrees, 53 hold Master’s Degrees, while 26 are PHd in education. There are 36 professors, 52 associate professors, 17 lecturers, 19 Teacher Assistants and 7 senior experimentalists. Besides, the school also has invited more than 20 famous experts both home and abroad as part-time professors. At present, there are 2505 students, of whom 45 are Doctorate students, 430 are postgraduate students studying for their Master’s Degree, while the rest are undergraduate students. Gratuates of this school now are working as backbones in relevant fields such as Aquatic industry, Biolog Education and food industry and make greate contruibutions to the development in the above-mentioned areas.
