The School of Humanities consists of 4 departments and 1 center which are: Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Journalism and Communication, Department of History, Department of Philosophy and the Mordern Meida Center. There are 160 full-time teachers (60 hold PHD, and 62 hold master’s degree), of whom 39 are professors, 51 are associate professors. There are many outstanding teachers in this college with 1 member of the Chinese Writers’ Association, 3 members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 enjoys the special allowance from the state council and 1 from the provincial government, 13 are provincial discipline leading researchers, 11 are provincial outstanding middle-aged and youth teachers, 4 are provincial outstanding teachers, 2 doctoral tutors and 85 tutors of postgratuate students.
There are also 9 researching institutes associate with the college which are Gan Study Researching Institute, Ke and Gan Dilects & Language Application Researching Center, Jiangyou Philosophy Researching Center, Film Art Research Center, Morality and Religion Research Institute, Research Institute of Contemporary Literature, Research Institute of Gan Culture and Ancient Books, Research Institute of Philosophy and Research Institute of the Mass Media and Society; as well as 2 teaching organizations: Teaching Center of Chinese as a second language, Training and Testing Center of Mandarin.
The college of humanities has formed a multi-level and multiformat education system which Characterized by taking postgraduate students education as the driving force, undergraduate students education as the main task, international students eucation and adult education as the two wings. Postgratuate education has 3 first disciplines which are Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism and Communication and Philosophy with specialities of Theory of Literature and Art, Chinese Language and Characters Study, Chinese Classical Philology, Ancient Chinese Literature, Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature, Comparative Literature and World Literature, Chinese philosophy, Ethics, Science and Technology Philosophy, Religion Study, Marxism Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Television Broadcasting Study, Linguistics and Applied linguistics, Journalism, Communications, Specific History, Ancient Chinese History, and |Archive Sience are authorized to award Master’s Degrees. At present, there are 600 postgratuate students studying in this college. As for the undergraduate programs, there are 9 specialities which are Chinese Language and Literature, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Journalism, Radio and TV Journalism, Advertisment, History, Archive Sience, and Philosophy respectively with 2900 students studying on campus. The college is also undertaking the Chinese Teaching Task of International Students of NCU which from about 40 countries all over the world.
The college has a strong teaching team, advanced teaching facilities, extensive library resources and broad internship bases, which provides students an environment to increase their knowledge, broaden their horizons, devote themselves to studying, and provided them an excellet conditions for further studies.
