Recommended reason | The School of Electrical Engineering and Automation has 235 teaching and administrative staff members, of whom 3 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 51 are professors, including 32 PhD supervisors. Thirty percent of the teachers hold PhD degrees while over 70 percent hold masters degree. The School admits 50 doctoral candidates, 200 master's candidates and 450 undergraduate students. With dozens of major research topics assigned by the ministries and provincial government annually, the annual research fund has exceeded 20 million yuan. Nearly 500 papers are published each year. According to incomplete statistics, over the past 50-odd years, more than 10,000 highly qualified people of talent have been brought up, over 200 awards at the provincial and ministerial level and above for educational and research achievements have been won and over 200 titles of academic works have been published, making significant contributions to the development of electrical science and technology and educational undertakings of China.
The School of Electrical Engineering and Automation consists of four departments, specifically, Dept. of Electrical Machinery, Dept. of Electric Engineering, Dept. of Applied Electronic Engineering, and Dept. of High Voltage Engineering. There are three institutes: Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering Physics, Institute of Electromagnetic Measurement, Institute of Electrics for Buildings, and one Electrotechnics Teaching Base. The School was the first in China to set up the Center for Pulse Power and Plasma, and the Center for Applied Superconductivity.
The main research areas include the whole process of generating, transmission, consuming, testing, control, distribution, and managing of electric power. It also boasts National Key Specialized Laboratory of New-type Electrical Machinery, Laboratory of Power System Dynamic Simulation, Laboratory of Heavy Current Measurement, and Laboratory of Applied Electronics Technology and National Educational Base of Basic Engineering Courses. It is in the first batch of universities in the nation authorized to award the master's, doctoral and post-doctoral degrees and degrees in grade-1 disciplines.
The School is one of the biggest units in the University. It was earliestly qualified to offer Doctor's degree programs and Post-Doctoral mobile station because of its sophisticated research. Its Bachelor's degree program is "Electrical Engineering and Automation", which is a wide-ranged interdisciplinary study across electrical engineering, computer science and technology as well as control science.
