A. APPLICATION
1. Categories & Qualification of Applicants
Applicants, who meet the qualification as below, may apply directly to the Foreign Students Affairs Office and ask for a Yunnan University Application Form of Foreign Students, or download Application Form from the homepage of Yunnan University.
2. Materials to be submitted
Undergraduate students
•Yunnan University Application Form of Foreign Students
•Final schooling certificate and schooling records
•Band Four or above certificate of HSK examination
•A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page

Graduate students and Visiting students
•Yunnan University Application Form of Foreign Students
•Final schooling certificate and schooling records
•Band Six or above certificate of HSK examination
• A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page
•Recommendation letters from two scholars of associate professor or higher for those applying for Master’s or Doctoral Candidates and senior visiting students.
•A portfolio of 6 photographic design artworks for those applying for Master’s candidates and visiting students of School of Arts and Design
•Two representative academic dissertations also required for those applying for Doctoral candidates of School of Arts and Design
Chinese Language students
•Yunnan University Application Form of Foreign Students
•Last schooling certificate and schooling records
• A copy of the applicant’s passport with photo page
The certificates provided should be the original documents in Chinese or in English, otherwise notarized translations in Chinese or English are required.
B. APPLICATION FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP AND YUNNAN PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants may apply for scholarship to the government departments in charge of overseas study affairs in their own country, related organizations or Chinese embassies. The application time is between April and May.
C. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION & ADMISSION
1. Undergraduate students
After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Student Affairs Office of Yunnan University, applicants will be required to take the entrance examination held by the University. The exams are usually held in mid-August. The exact time will be announced by the University.
2. Graduate students
Those who apply for graduate program can be admitted if passing the entrance examinations held by the university.
3. Visiting students
After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office and the Admission Committee of the department concerned, the admission notice will be issued.
4. Chinese Language students
After the application materials have been reviewed and approved by the Foreign Students Affairs Office, the admission notice will be issued. The Foreign Students Affairs Office will issue the Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China to the applicants who passed the examination and were approved by the University.
D. ENROLLMENT
The applicants admitted should bring Passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China, the Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Record to the embassy and consulates of the People’s Republic of China in respective countries and apply for an X visa. Students must register before the deadline at the Foreign Students Affairs Office and get the Residence Permit within 30 days after they enter China.
E. SCHOOLING SYSTEM
Bachelor’s degree program: 4 years (five years for Architecture)
Master’s degree program: 3 years
Doctoral degree program: 3-4 years
Visiting student: 1 semester to 2 years
Chinese Language student: 1 semester to 2 years

3. Insurance
The students studying in the university more than one semester may purchase medical insurance for hospitalization and accident injury. The premium is RMB 800 yuan per year per person or 400 yuan per half-year per person.
4. Housing
There are different types of rooms you can rent in Kunming. The cost varies from 500 yuan to 1000 yuan (RMB) per month.
