Founded in 1953, Nanjing University of Science & Technology is one of the first groups of national key universities. It has an area of 178 hectares and is located in the Zhongshan scenic spot in the ancient capital of the six dynasties.
NUST is composed of the following schools and department: Graduate School, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Electronic Engineering & Opto-electronic Technology, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Economics & Management, School of Power Engineering, School of Science, School of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Department of Materials Science & Engineering. The university has 5 national key disciplines, 16 ministerial and provincial key disciplines, 2 national key laboratories, and 3 national engineering research centers. It offers 9 post-doctoral programs, 29 doctoral programs, 54 master programs, 52 undergraduate programs, and it also has the right to confer master degree in engineering, MBA and EMBA. It currently owns 3,010 faculty members, among whom 1,420 are professional teachers, 3 are academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 130 are doctoral tutors. The total number of students is 20,070 including 15,860 undergraduates and 4210 postgraduates.
In recent years, the university has won various awards. In 14 times of mathematic and physical competitions held among the institutions of higher learning of Jiangsu Province, NUST championed 10. And three doctorate dissertations have been selected into the “100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations” of our country. In the fifth National College Students’ “Challenge Cup” Contest of Extracurricular Scientific and Technological Achievements, the works of its students won the first prize among universities of science and technology.
The university has fine facilities for both teaching and research. Besides the library with a collection of over 1.2 million volumes of books, all kinds of laboratories are available to students all day long. The university has comprehensive sports facilities such as standard stadiums, gymnasium, tennis court, and swimming pool. In order to enrich the extracurricular life of students and cultivate students’ comprehensive quality, the university has over 30 different students’ mass organizations in which each student can let his personality display.
In recent 20 years, the university attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchange with world prestigious universities. There are lots of exchange activities for the students both at home and abroad conducted in the university every year. At present, there are more than 50 international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan enrolled at the university.
